who has tried to buy back a guitar they sold?

Post by Footbutt » Sun Dec 20, 2015 11:43 am

I FOOLishly let go of a lefty Jaguar...

Image

...and now i want it back!
i'm missing that perfect neck and i'm still so upset that i sold it to fund two jazzmaster projects.

i'm in talks with the dude that bought it, and he says he may be willing to trade for a lefty jazzmaster, that of which i have three!
i'll try to work it out. (i'm willing to drop $195 on Spitfire tort too!)

what have been your stories of love-lost/found again?

I've never bought back a guitar. Although if I could, for sentimental reasons mostly, I'd buy back my old black SG standard. Was my fist good playing guitar. No other SGs played quite like it.

I bought back a gold Reverend Rocco with Bigsby I had.... I have enough guitars I don't really miss them when I do sell but I have a hard time with the US Reverends even though I don't play them all that much anymore. I had some mod ideas for this one so now it looks like this:

I miss my Pelham blue Les Paul Jr. something fierce, and I tried to buy another one recently. I would contact the guy I sold it to, but on the way out he was talking some shit about sanding it and refinishing it and God knows what he's done to the poor thing.

Only guitar I've ever regretted selling was my 50s reissue Strat that I'd upgraded w/ Seymour Duncans, locking tuners, and a bone nut. The neck on that guitar was the best I've ever played. The Warmoth Clapton profile is really close, and I've used that on all but 1 of my builds, but I still regret selling that baby. But it was the lean starving college student years.

worst thing that happened to me was I lost my job, had to pawn some gear, never got the money to get it out of pawn...then when i finally did, i had to buy it full price off the sales floor.
What is acoustic? Oh, you means a grandpa's guitars? A grandpa's guitars? That's for pussies and grandpas. I think you know it.

Never tried to, but I have a few that I would

My old 80's strat that I bought in the 90's. I loved everything about it except the bridge pickup. If i'd known more about swapping pickups then i'd have probably been buried with that guitar.

I'd also take my first MIJ Jazzmaster and Mustang back as well if they were ever on the market.

Same thing Happened to me but I ebay'd all my vintage gear Nationals / Supros / Gibsons / Mosrites etc... all back in 08 and got probably 1/2 what I paid. I've seen a few come back on since I asked the buyers to let me know if they ever sold them but still can not afford them.
short answer
yes with an 'if'
long answer
no with a 'but'

I sold my first guitar (a mim Telecaster) to pay rent a year ago. I'm back on my feet and I've considered reaching out to the guy and trying to buy it back.

That's been a nightmare of mine for some time. Sorry that happened to you.

Yep, same thing. Lost my Fiesta Red Jag Stang and had to buy it back for like $450. Worst shit.

I haven't but if I could it would be the '50's Les Paul Jr. w/P90 & the 1959 Gibson ES345 w/Original PAF's I foolishly sold. Also I'd like the '60's Vox Phantom 6 String that was stolen from me returned.

Never sold anything apart from the first guitar I ever bought, a new MIM Strat (rosewood and black) that I think I paid about $330 or $350 new for it in 1991, and the salesperson told me that it was made in the US but only painted in Mexico because the factory down there wasn't fully online yet. This site seems to confirm it, though: http://planetbotch.blogspot.com/2012/08 ... sters.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Anyway, I got rid of it as soon as I bought my MIJ Jaguar because I felt it self-indulgent to own more than one solid-body guitar at a time. (If then-me could only see now-me!) No idea how good of a guitar it was, since I was just starting out, but I kind of wish I still had it, especially since I've never owned a Strat since. The silver lining is that I sold it for what I paid for it, which doesn't happen often when you've bought new!

Looked something like this:
