The trouble I have with the Eastwoods is that by the time you factor in all the shipping and customs fees to get one in the UK, they are not a necessarily cheaper option than an original. I was on the verge of getting one of their Harmony H75s (or whatever they are called) but after adding all that it was about 200 quid on top of the list price!

They have had a warehouse in Liverpool since 2010, prices on the EASTWOOD UK site includes VAT
Not sure if they are more expensive than the North American prices but you won't have to pay custom fees

Well I didn't know that!

I keep getting mailshots from them and at the time followed the link from one of those, which was the US one. Thanks for the heads up.

Edit: I've just had a quick look and the prices are much less than the cost of importing would have been.

I honestly don't get how they can put up images of instruments from other brands with their trademarked logos, say "help us make a copy of it" and not have lawyers trying to see them into next century.

Aren't they mostly 'dead' brands or models?

Fender owns the charvel name still. So no not really. Same as lots of stuff on there, it's not so much what they are reproducing, rather they are using images of the originals with trademarked names and logos on their site for "what we're going to make". That I don't understand how they get away with.

maybe they worked out the deal in advance?
If I was a byrd, I'd be mighty sore every time they shut the door and I don't think I'd sing...

That confuses me too. Their latest 'funding' project is for a straight copy of the Gibson RD. I have no clue how it's legal.

Having been sued by Gibson, I'm going to say no they haven't.

They are pretty open posting Pictures of other makers originals. That said there are 10,000 guys knocking off Tele's, Strat's, Jags, JM's, LP's & many more.

It is curious? Are there any Attorneys here that can weigh in?

Regardless Eastwood/Airline is creating some cool Retro Tribute Guitars at very affordable prices. Not for everyone.

The Surfcaster 6 string is so close in price to a Fender 60's Series Lacquer JM, Jag, Tele & Strat it would be hard to pass on buying one or all of them first.

But the 12 string is a different story. Not being a fan of Dano 12 strings quality this could be a great alternative. Not many cool sub $1000 electric 12 strings out there. The Surfcaster 12 has vibe as cool as a Rick for less than half the Dough. Question is, how does this Guitar sound?

Anxiously awaiting my surf-green surf-12. Actually, anxiously awaiting word that it's come in and I can pay for the rest of it, and THEN start anxiously awaiting the arrival.

Anyone else ever pre-ordered one of their custom shop guitars? I'm starting to get excited.

I should probably demand a discount since they used my photo (the group shot of 4 originals) to convince people to chip in- I wonder if that'd go anywhere....

Please give your review when you get it. I'm looking to get one too....

Also Pics would be cool too.

Can't hurt to ask for a discount, especially if yours was a model for their photo shoot..

Thanks,

Lucky

I read everyday that another guitar company is making a 12 string variant. And every time I come into the topic and ask where the damn Fender XII is.

:(
"I've been waiting for you, Obi-Wan. We meet again, at last. The circle is now complete. When I left you, I was but the learner, now I am the master."
