GAS Question: How many guitars is too many?

Post by softcopymusic » Thu Dec 19, 2013 2:47 pm

(post edited... I accidentally put 68 reissue)

I currently have:

- AVRI 62 Jazzmaster
- AVRI 62 Jaguar
- Lee Ranaldo Jazzmaster
- 1965 Mustang (refin)

I also have a Squire Mikey Way Mustang Bass and an acoustic guitar. I think this is way too many guitars, although I'm still lusting after a Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster. Thoughts?

THANK YOU OSG.

My perfect number is 3...

2 electrics and one acoustic, but there is nothing wrong with having more...just as long as you are having fun, and can afford to have them :)

I currently have 5 electrics, 2 acoustics and a bass, so if you have too many, i'm in trouble.

Fender Japanese 62 RI Jaguar

There is no such number as too many.

It reminds me of a story about Johnny Marr. After he started collecting Jags, his wife asked if he was planning on owning every single Jag on earth. He replied "Yes."

My list is stupid I have way too many and I still lust over more.Currently I have

Japanese 62 JM, my main guitar gets used probably 75% of the time.
Japanese b and b jazzmaster
J Mascis purplemaster
TMJM
60s classic tele mim
cabronita mim
les paul jr satin
VM jag ,loaned to my brother to learn on.
es 335, this gets the rest of my playing time.
epi dot, loaned to the drummer in my band.
Yamaha apx 4
sigma cheapo acoustic
squier tele/precision bass

I'am getting tempted to have a massive cull but can't quite bring myself to do it yet.It also doesn't stop me wanting a Les Paul, some sort of Strat,a Johnny Marr jag and some thing with a bigsby on it and if fender reissue the XII I would probably have to get one of those.Kill me now

Currently, I have 2 electrics and an acoustic, but this would be my ideal:

1 Acoustic
2 single coils (Jazzmaster, Telemaster?)
1 humbucker (Toronado)
1 hollowbody humbucker (Starcaster?)

That lineup would scratch all my itches unless I decided I needed a Baritone or Bass guitar. More than 4 electrics and I don't think I would play them all enough to make it worth it.

Not a problem to have a bunch, as long as they get played.

I guess my counter-question is "Why?" You already have two top-notch examples of the Jazzmaster.

columbus hollowbody
S.A.D. duo-caster

Iunno. I have one that I never play but can't part with. It was my first instrument, and the feels.

Same boat:

Gibson SG
Gibson ES-125
Epiphone Riviera (Kalamazoo-made)
PRS Standard 22
Fender AmSe Strat
Fender Japan/Warmoth hybrid Strat
Squier VMJM
Larrivee D3
Guild 12 string
Yamaha classical
Hofner nylon string

And I still want a Tele. And then maybe a Jag, and of course a Les Paul...
