I might downsize soon, but currently I have

a custom build with 3 pickups
Peavey T-15
Quest Atak-2 (with lipstiks)
Eko Ghost VI
Vox SDC22
Michael Kelly telecaster

I play my custom and the T-15 the most.
got the Michael Kelly in a trade and plan to flip it. They're not distributed in Canada anymore.
The others are in open tunings.

I've owned probably 50 different guitars, and for me- there is no perfect guitar.
even my custom doesn't have all the features I like!!

someone previously mentioned that people collect things for hobbies, cars, tools, golf equipment, ect.
but at least musicians are able to create something from what we blow play cheques on.

this is a first world problem in it's truest form... but i think I have too many. i'm consistently feeling like i'm neglected the others and i'm not sure why i'm holding on to them. i think part of it was that i didn't know what i'd do with the money once i sold them, but now i have a kid on the way #gamechanger.

i possess the following:

Fender Classic Player '60s Stratocaster
Fender American Special Telecaster
Epiphone 1961 50th Anniversary Casino
Gibson Jeff Tweedy Signature SG
Duesenberg Starplayer TV
Reverend Sensei HB
Eastman E20D Dreadnought

I will never sell the Strat, because it was a gift from my wife and my goal is to hold on to the Tweedy SG for 30-40 years until it's worth a shitload of dinero. I wouldn't sell the the acoustic unless i could get a steal on a martin D-28 or D-35, but i think I could part with the rest... but will i ever?

i think the answer to the OP question is that when you stop being inspired by picking them up, then you have too many.

I'm rather surprised by how many people here apparently don't own any actual offsets.

as for now, the guitars that have already been moved to Germany (where i will start my new life in less than a year):

- '65 "crackwhore" Jaguar
- '69 Maverick
- '78 Jazzmaster
- '67 Coronado
- 70's Tele Custom
- 70's BroncoBlaster
- 70s Ibanez Rick guitar copy
- 70s Ventura Ampeg plexi copy

i'll also be sending myself the '66 Jag for sure, and i guess the '64 Jazzer, too.
as for the rest, i really don't know. might (try) to sell some, and/or leave them at my brother's, so i can be taking them with me over the years.

I was just thinking the exact same thing! No one Fender doesn't listen to our wants around here, even the people on this board aren't buying offsets!

fair enough assessment... I've owned offsets [i.e. the one in my avatar]... just do not at the moment. Sometimes the idea of them is better than actually owning them for me.

it's appropriate that I've been exposed in this thread as it applies to having too many guitars for my situation. So I drop 2k on an AV65 or even 1k on one of the new 60s JM and then they sit an collect dust, or something else sits and collects dust. i barely play guitar enough to justify owning more than 1, but i still love everything about it, just don't have the time that i used to.

I just like the vibe here and like to see projects and pictures and whatnot that people post and i also like a lot of the people that play them.

As many as you like, as many as you can afford, and as many as you have space for.

If you have guitars that you never play, and you don't have room to fit them all, you have too many.
If you have guitars that you never play, while not being able to pay bills/buy food/sustain a decent living standard, you have too many.

I agree. I guess I'm just too utilitarian. If it doesn't get played, it probably has to go :)

"How many guitars is too many?"
This question maybe never can be answered.
But I liked this answers with the "space" for the guitars. This is unfortunately a realistic point.
At home I don`t have enough space for all my guitars. A few of them are here with me, a few at the rehearsal room.
I always can go to the rehearsal room and I know there are minimum 4 or 5 usable guitars from me.

...all in all I have about 30 guitars?... (I have got no Strat, no Tele, no LesPaul or something... but nearly everything else. :) )
...and about 8 good amps or so...
It starts... when it begins.
