I was in that region a few months ago. Then I did a big sell off. I'm down to only 15 now! Well, 17 by next week.

I had accumulated about 10 over the years. Some of them hardly got played. I figured out it was fairly easy to unload them down at the local used shop, compared to eBay/Reverb shipping etc. I sold 5 plus an Ashbory bass.

I bought the Squier Deluxe JM which is really nice. I brought out my Squier Strat for unplugged living room twanging and I don't like it quite as much - seems kinda lightweight. Sounds OK plugged in.

So I still have 2 basses and 5 electric guitars and two acoustic guitars, acoustic and electric tenor ukuleles, acoustic mandolin and my wife got me an electric mandolin for father's day which hasn't exactly shown up yet but I'm sure it will.

I used to think I needed "one of every kind" but I wasn't gigging and haven't recorded much since my kids were born (15 years ago). So it really boiled down to which guitars I had a good relationship with and pick up to play more than the others.

That is now (electric guitars only):
a) Yamaha AES 800
b) Squier Deluxe JM
c) Steinberg Spirit
d) Squier Standard Strat
e) Peavey Reactor Tele type that belonged to my brother and is not in great shape

It's all subjective I guess. If I had a barn and air-controlled storage to keep them in I guess there would never be a "too many".

As I've gotten older i've downsized as I just don't play those guitars any more for various reasons (a few have still yet to leave my cold dead hands even though I rarely play them).

If you've got a roof over your head, can pay your rent and bills, then who cares about "too many". Somebody's gotta prop up Gibson right? ;)
Twang, Reverb, and Echo - it's where it's AT!

Well, 6 bass guitars, 6 electric guitars, and 1 acoustic?

None of them share pickup configurations, some are short scale some aren't, different materials all around; Squier, Epi, Ibanez, Dano, and Seagull.

I'm thinking of buying a Squier Bullet Mustang and making several "drop in" pickguard/pickup setups so I can turn it into a sort of modular guitar. That would make a total.of fourteen and since thirteen is unlucky I really don't have a choice.

Oh, and a soprano, a concert and tenor ukuleles.

An embarrassment of "riches".
