I LOVE that IBM with the black pickguard. That works really well!

I don't think it's that Fender has "lost interest" in the AV offsets. I think it's that they haven't sold all that well at the prices Fender has to charge, which unfortunately are comparable to the going rate for a refinished original.

That said, after having spent several months looking around for the right refinished vintage Jaguar, I'm tempted to buy a used AV65 Jag and have it redone in Teal to match my Jazzmaster.
That's not a bad idea. The AV65 Jags are some of the finest guitars I have ever played. To be quite honest, they play every bit as good if not better IN MY OPINION than a vintage. Yes with vintage you get the collectors value and the history behind it as well as the lovely vintage tort and great authentic wear, but it was a no brainer for me. I wanted mine mint condition brand new. I wanted to put the scratches and history on it. It was mine from beginning to end and that was much more valuable to me than the vintage stuff. I definitely would love to have a vintage Jag, but to be honest with you I am not sure if I would get any more enjoyment out of it over my AV65. Would probably be about the same, just in different ways. ;). I think you would be the first to refin a AV65. Would be cool to see.

Anything new this year with the AV65 Jag line? I sure would love to start seeing some LPBs.

Hey Otis, welcome. Great guitars aren't they? In my book it doesn't get any better, the old styling mixed with the new. i love mine and still plays like brand new. I always say it feels like it plays itself since its so easy to play and feels so good.

Hi Mark!
Good to hear you're still so enthousiastic about your Jaguar!
It plays pretty effortless, indeed.
As far as I'm concerned, every Jaguar I had did.
That's why I missed playing a Jaguar so much. I'm really looking forward to play this Jaguar a lot.
I'm taking it to rehearsal tonight and eager to hear how it will sound in our band.

That's a pretty irrelevant statement to add to this AV65 Jaguar thread.

Bah! Photobucket has laid waste to the images in this thread, here’s mine to redress the balance.

Stock save for the mint pickguard. It’s a super guitar, I can’t fault it.

We there any plan to do other colors such as the LPB? Actually did they discontinue the AV65 series? I see they have the American Original now. Is it pretty much exactly the same as the AV65?

Yes, AV65 jags are discontinued. The American Original jags are not the same. They have the AVRI62 pickups and the finish is no longer “flash coat nitro”; there is a poly undercoat. Other than the bound neck, they are more similar to the AVRI62 jags than to the AV65 jags.

They also have modern neck specs with 9.5” radius and 6105 frets.

I don’t know if Fender planned any other colors for the AV65 jags, but they only produced four: sunburst, CAR, sonic blue, and IBM.

Well that's kind of cool. It makes our av65s much more valuable or at least more rare.

Loving the CAR Jags in here!

I've had mine about a year now, picked it up pretty cheap second hand. Had it resprayed in Burgundy Mist with a matching headstock, took the mute off, Staytrem bridge and arm, strung up with 12-56s, total surf machine! Finish is pretty thin so it's picking up dents and marks quicker than I'm used to haha! Not the greatest pictures in the world, and it's also a really hard colour to take photos of, but oh well.

Wow super cool. I think you are the first I have seen to do something custom or refined one of these. Nice work. How much did you pay for it?

Cheers! I picked the guitar up for about £800, and got a discount on the refin because I know the guys at the shop, all in I think the guitar cost me around £1100 with paint, new bridge and arm etc., very happy with it.

There’s something listed on reverb as an AV65 Jag that’s “refinned” as aged LPB. It doesn’t come with any of the stuff the AV65s came with and has an aftermarket case... it’s like the coolest thing I’ve seen in a while but I can’t help but think it’s just an MJT Jag being sold as an AV65.
