Fender to reissue the Starcaster

ideally they they go 1 to 10.. if they are blank or go -5 to +5 (or whatever) think they are from a amp referencing something different to volume settings ...from a distance i guess it don't matter.. and i suppose they are rarer in the grand scheme of things.. but not accurate

I just picked up a pair for $10 randomly off CL thanks to a fortuitously located family member. I still have to pick up two more, though I suspect they won't match...maybe 1-10 for the volume and -5 to +5 for the tone.

finally got the original knobs for my aged cherry burst...anyone know a quick way of posting a pic without resorting to photo bucket etc.

heres my final call on it for someone new to owning one or thinking of getting one.

iv had it a few weeks def put a bigsby on if wanted.. very solid no tuning issues
if ya can't find original knobs def get some aluminium ones of some sort makes the instrument as a whole stand out
maybe consider NOT changing the pick ups

the main confusion comes from when you play it acoustically it sounds great, when ya plug it in it sounds very very good and i like the internal non wide range pick ups but can sound muddy....save ya self some money a nice set of strings went up a gauge from the 9's that came with to decent quality 10's and 20 mins of playing with the e.q on my amp i kinda got rid of the muddyness

Just upload to facebook, right click and copy image location, drop that into IMG tags. Boom! Looking forward to seeing it!

Did the Bigsby fit well at the base? It looks like the strap button isn't on perfectly level wood, but rather part of the curve.

you won't get a full length bigsby on there as offset.. you could make a piece of wood in the right shape to square it off..will look well odd though

I can't believe I wasn't thinking of the B5...I have one on my SG! Looks like you have a vibramate under there, yeah? Good to know that those fit well.

yeah vibramate all the way.. the bodies too curved (arch top wise) to have anything else.the tail end hangs in the air a little but no other way... main thing its extremely solid. no adjustment from putting it on. hasn't gone out of tune once. unlike my sg's maestro tremolo which hasn't been in tune once since i bought the guitar. lol

I drove 178 miles to play test a Starcaster today.

Okay not really. My daughter spent the week with her grandma and I had to come pick her up. But the GC in the town I'm in had one in stock so natch I stopped in to check it out.

First the good: It is a beautiful guitar. Pictures don't do it justice. This was the burst model. And it sounds great. Really great. Like, don't even worry about Lollars, Novaks or MOD1s. Really.

But, I could not get along with the neck. Against the big body, it feels like a toothpick. I've played other Modern Player guitars and haven't had a problem with their necks. I think it's the same neck (or very similar) to the MP Tele Plus, which I own, and like. But on this particular guitar, it was giving me problems. There was something about the width that was causing my fingers to go to the wrong strings.

I put the guitar down after only a couple of minutes. After wanting to try one of these for months it was quite a let-down. I picked it up again later, but just couldn't bond with it. Bummer.

I really like the chunky "D" necks on the Epi Dot/Sheraton/Casino. And those are cheaper, even after a pickup swap. So I think, when I pick up a hollow body guitar later this year, it will be one of the Epis. Unless the Coronado is different/better.

Now where can I play one of those?

Wonderful looking bigsby starcaster there! Would it be possible to route the body for a Jazzmaster tremolo?

finallu got to play the reissue (not that i've ever played an original) everything about it seems pretty great, BUT i found the strings to be spaced somewhat uncomfortably close together... i guess swapping the bridge and possibly the nut could fix this for me? any agree-ers here?

That's exactly what I mentioned in my post above. It totally turned me off from this guitar.

Wound up buying this instead:

Ironically, the string spacing on this one is pretty thin too. But not in such a bothersome way (to me personally) as the Starcaster.

I'd imagine a bridge swap would take care of this. I think it's the mismatching of the 9.5" radius, or possibly just the spacing on the T-O-M
