The earlier models had aluminum skirted knobs like these:Sauerkraut wrote: here's Jonny Greenwood and his Starcaster:

looks like a 2-tone burst, and the mastervolume button has something written on it (probably 'master').
The later ones had regular Strat knobs - two are "volume", two are "tone" and one has "master" written on it. When my site comes back online I"ll post a photo of the "master" knob that I got last year in a parts deal.

Mine's got those aluminium knobs .. so you mean when you see them with the black Strat knobs it's actually an original feature? I just assumed it was something that people liked to mod in the 80s.

I think the later models (last year or maybe even less) had the Strat knobs - at least that's what I was led to believe.mezcalhead wrote: Mine's got those aluminium knobs .. so you mean when you see them with the black Strat knobs it's actually an original feature? Here is a shot of the Strat-type "Master" knob. I wish I could get a "Servant" knob made up.

Agreed.Naturality wrote: I hate that new Starcaster brand by Fender coming up whenever I search for the good ones,.
If someone was to get hugely famous with a vintage Starcaster that would make them want to reissue them, they'd be screwed. At least they could have called it the "Startercaster" or something.

Re: Lovely Starcaster Photos
Well, two chart-humping mega-bands now use them, as discussed (Radiohead and The Killers), so it's only a matter of time (and maybe two or three more famous Starcaster players) before they have to at least reissue a signature model. Or so you'd think.
A CIJ Starcaster would be a fine thing.

Agreed, if only there was some way to get these suggestions to Fender....idiotbear wrote: A CIJ Starcaster would be a fine thing.
We could get a petition going and then they'd most likely re-issue it. Gibson make Signature models at the drop of the hat which is possibly the best thing they do.

If Fender ever listened to petitions there'd be all sorts of cool stuff out there.Naturality wrote: We could get a petition going and then they'd most likely re-issue it.

Yeah, I thought that too when I first saw it! I can only wish it was a Starcaster.

Re: Lovely Starcaster Photos
Isn't that because the Starcaster itself was partly based on a Gibson model? .. I know it was meant to compete with the ES-335, but I think there was another model it took some cues from as well .. I want to say Trini Lopez .. ?
