I've done some mods to mine.

Black pickguard, new pickups, slightly aged white covers, AVRI trem. Also bought a Mastery bridge, but in the end put it on my Bass VI.
Couldn't be bothered to re-drill the holes for the thimbles...
Instead, I filed off all the sharp corners on the TOM. I also widened the slots on the TOM and filed the saddles down to the proper 9.5" radius.
Plays and intonates perfectly. Stays in tune perfectly even with wild trem usage.

I also liked the satin finished neck but made it even more smooth by oh so slightly sanding it with 800 grit sandpaper.
Put on chrome dome knobs - these are so nice when doing volume swells with your pinky!
Re-strung it with D'addario 11-52s. My favorite strings at the moment.

Right now I'm still fine-tuning the new pickups. I will post some sound clips before and after in a separate post.
I got the pickups from Shawn (chnlone) and can already confirm: They are really nice and worth the upgrade.
This guitar is GREAT! It was very nice stock. But now... definetly a keeper and my #1.

Where did you find the black guard that will fit the JMJM? I'm wanting to do that too but can't find one that isn't made for MIJ.

Look on ebay, it's a seller called cwgp2010 from the Netherlands.

Only cosmetic changes, NOS witch hats and badly cut mint guard I've had lying around for years.

I Put a tort AVRI guard and a wilkinson roller bridge. I thought about changing the trem to an AVRI one, but didn't find the need after the bridge upgrade.
Next step, a proper bone nut. I have no plan to change the pickup as I really love them.

All the electronics, the pickups (Mojo pickups), the pickguard and the bridge have been changed. It was a great guitar, it's now a killer guitar !

Have you redrilled for the new bridge thimbles?
Was it worth the effort? Is there a lot of hearable difference between the two bridges?

I only tried my mastery with it, but I didn't re-drill.
I simply wrapped the mastery thimbles with some adhesive copper tape, as tight as I possibly could and then fitted them in the bigger holes. My observation was that a properly installed TOM sounds better than a somewhat wiggly fitted Mastery.

I didn't redrill, I used scrub screws in the TOM thimbles, following JforJag's clever idea:

Yes it worth the effort IMO, I find the guitar now sounding more jangly.

@shaggseb...was the wilkinson roller a direct drop in? seems like a cheap mod that's worth the effort...

Yeah it was a direct drop in. Remove the TOM and the studs, put the new studs in and place the bridge, DONE.
However, all I had to do with the new pickguard is to sand the bridge's holes a little with sand paper in order to lowered the studs at their maximum, since the tort with its 4 plys is way more thicker than the anodized one.
But if you stay with the original pickguard you're fine. I'm a heavy tremolo user (à la shoegaze) and the guitar stays in tune beautifully and the tremolo use is way smoother.

I really want to replace the bridge on my j mascis, and came across this 'wilkinson ultimate roller bridge'

It seems to have adjustable radius, which is a big bonus.

Would this work as a replacement? Am I missing something, like string spacing or post spacing which would make this unsuitable?
