Re: Show your Squier Mascis JM Mods/Improvements!
Mine is still stock and I have no issues with it. I kind of want to try a staytrem, but more for the fun of tweaking than anything else (I don't mess with this one, but I have a partscaster I swap things around on).
I did swap the body with another Mascis that I bought and flipped. It was about a pound lighter. A bonus was that the neck fit in a way that I could get the bridge as low as reasonably possible. The TOM doesn't need added sustain or break angle.

All you folks getting SD pickups, do the stock pickup covers fit or did you have to get AVRI ones? Will the mounting screws work?

I got a plexiglass golden PG on mine. I got the original one signed by Lee Ranaldo at a gig and afterwards decided to frame it. Duo to anodized guards being kind of expensive, I tried one of these and I'm fine with them, I even like the golden tone more than the orangish in the original one.

If I was a byrd, I'd be mighty sore every time they shut the door and I don't think I'd sing...

I got it from a guy who sells them in Brazil, but I'm sure it's very close to these:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but based on your photo, it looks like a gold layer at the back, with clear plexiglas on top, like a Gretsch gold guard.leokula wrote:I got it from a guy who sells them in Brazil, but I'm sure it's very close to these:

Those WD-style plastic gold guards have a printed brushed gold design on top of the plastic, which has less depth to the look.

Hmmm didn't know that... You're right about mine, it's just like a gretsch pickguard or the ones they often use at Fano.

Thank you, guys! I'm digging as well. Every once in a while feel like putting the original back on, but so far so good. I think it's a keeper.

I'm pretty sure this is the material used for the pickguard. It's what Kauer uses on his guitars and has the look of the Gretsch back painted guards.mbene085 wrote:Correct me if I'm wrong, but based on your photo, it looks like a gold layer at the back, with clear plexiglas on top, like a Gretsch gold guard.leokula wrote:I got it from a guy who sells them in Brazil, but I'm sure it's very close to these:

Re: Show your Squier Mascis JM Mods/Improvements!
I was wondering what gauge strings you guys are using on your Mascis JMs? Since the stock AOM bridge can handle lighter strings a bit better than the usual JM bridges, are you guys using 10s or lower, or do you still prefer heavier gauges? I'm trying to find the right balance of playability and tuning stability on mine.

I'm using .10's on my JM's & Jag. & my other Electrics except .009's on my Tele & .12's on my Acoustics.
Stock Bridge on my J Mascis & AV65 Jag. Mustang Bridge on my AV65 JM. No problems with .10's.
Seems like a good balance for me.

I added a american trem on my squire bass VI the route for the trem wasn't deep enough I used a drill to add a little depth to mine. Try at your own risk, but it worked for me.thecolorwaves wrote:I recently picked up a Japanese trem which I installed on my JMJM (I wanted the locking feature). The problem I'm having is that it's 'bottoming out'. It stops hard when pressed in just a little. Anyone experienced similar?
