The lock is off, and it's when I press down on it. Something is making contact with the body of the guitar. The obvious culprit would be the arm, which is pushed in all the way. But is there a way around this?MKR wrote:something to do with the tremolo lock? sounds like the tremolo lock it engaged.thecolorwaves wrote:I recently picked up a Japanese trem which I installed on my JMJM (I wanted the locking feature). all JM trems wether they're squier, japanese, AVRI all work on the same principle and for the most part have pretty much interchanging parts. you should loosen your strings, unscrew the tremolo and just examine as to what the problem could be. compare it with your old trem and see what the difference is. something's off, you just have to figure out what it is.thecolorwaves wrote:The lock is off, and it's when I press down on it. I had a bad time upgrading the electronics on my Squier Tele, so I figured I should ask here:
Will Fender electronics (pots, switches) fit on the JMJM, or do I need to look for something in millimeters? Particularly interested in the main selector switch, since the pots aren't really giving me any trouble but the switch is showing early signs of trouble.

Sorry for once again dredging this up: I'm having problems with two of my tuners right now. What's a good upgrade that'll drop in? I recently picked up a JM Jag and it was night and day in terms of the tuners: what do they ship with and would they work for a JMJM?

Any high quality Kluson (like on the JM jag) should suffice.thecolorwaves wrote:Sorry for once again dredging this up: I'm having problems with two of my tuners right now. That was the first mod on mine. It makes a huge difference in tone!mizbiz wrote:andy_tchp wrote:Staytrem made a direct drop on for J Mascis and Classic Player Jazzmasters. It resembled a normal Staytrem bridge, but it had the posts removed and two large holes in their place.
And I changed the switch tip to an amber one that I got for <1€ from Thomann's own Harley Benton brand.
"500€? That's the price of a J Mascis Jazzmaster!"

Has anyone used a Compton bridge on the modern j mascis with any success?
I just ordered a jm jm and a crap load of parts and was thinking about a Compton in either brass or stainless with a tone chamber.

Thanks I appreciate it.
Now I just have to decide on brass or stainless.

Just did a color matched headstock for a member's JM JM and added his custom made decal to the headstock. Turned out pretty neat if I do say so myself.

Re: Show your Squier Mascis JM Mods/Improvements!
Was able to get mine finished.
I Used a roadworn jm harness and pickups
62ri trem w/shortened arm
Compton brass tone chamber bridge
f neck plate and
Schaller strap locks.
Just needs the frets dressed now.
These are nice platforms to mod from.
