To anyone who has replaced the nut on their SMJM, did you notice any improvement with a new nut?
The nut on mine seems to be working ok, and is cut well, but I was wondering if it would be beneficial to replace it with a good bone or tusq nut.

My original nut was cut well, so while it didn't affect the playability, the tuning and open string tone was improved with a bone nut. I'd recommend it.soul1 wrote:To anyone who has replaced the nut on their SMJM, did you notice any improvement with a new nut?

I put a bone nut on one of mine and I did notice an improvement all around.

Please post more photos of literally anything.
Here's my JMJM with:
AVRI Tort
Matching Headstock*
AVRI Trem
Staytrem drop in
*Sort of matches?
I learned from matching headstock posts here that finding a rattle-can exact match of the JMJM vintage white would be difficult, however, I really didn't care if it was exact, just close enough. I first tried Duplicolor Wimbledon White (even though posts here warned that it was too white, I had to see for myself how much I could live with...Wimbledon White proved to be too white indeed. I then found on Amazon a Duplicolor Toyota Creme (BTY-1542) that I tried and thought what the hell, looks close enough and went for it. Not exact, but I can live with it.

Hey Shaggseb, can you tell me where you got the roller bridge from? I'm debating getting one of these J. Mascis models, but I've always had problems with string breakage on tune-o-matic bridges.shaggseb wrote:I Put a tort AVRI guard and a wilkinson roller bridge. I thought about changing the trem to an AVRI one, but didn't find the need after the bridge upgrade.
Next step, a proper bone nut. I have no plan to change the pickup as I really love them.

Just got a JM Jazzmaster and I'm really impressed. I'll be personalizing it a bit with a new pick guard and some knobs to begin with. Once that happens, and it will happen soon, I'll post some photos. This thread is of a great value to all JM Jazmaster owners.

Hi there, I got it from my typical parts store here in Paris, but you can definitely found them on the bay. Go for it, they're great if you play the tremolo heavily. I've replaced mine with a compton bridge (mostly for aesthetic reasons) but that's another story.OV7 wrote:

I would just get a professional setup, everything else is perfect on this guitar from the factory in my case!

Re: Show your Squier Mascis JM Mods/Improvements!
2 quick question about the mascis JM: is the rhythm bracket the same size as typical JMs when it comes to fitting onto an aftermarket pickguard or is it a smaller one like the squier VMs?
