I always toss away the speed knobs on my Les Pauls, but on a gold 'guarded JM it looks really good.
I am.

Just finished this headstock refinish up for a member here...vintage white paint custom mixed for JMJM, will be a perfect match to the guitar's factory finish!

Thurston Mascis aka Sonic Dinosaur:
Mods:
Relocated the vibrato tailpiece to vintage spec. Yes, it was a huge pain. I do not recommend it unless you have a huge aversion to the moved up location (I do), have all the tools and skills to do so, and have a sentimental attachment to the guitar itself. This JMJM was a present and has seen lots of action so rather than collect dust or move it, I moved the tailpiece.
Seymour Duncan Antiquity II pickups. Wired up Thurston style, volume only. Stock 3 way switch is the next thing to go. 500k volume pot tames it a touch.
Custom 9 hole Bakelite pickguard. volume and switch only, no rhythm circuit, simple as can be.
stickers. lots. relocating the vibrato left some finish flaws so i just covered them with a big 'I <3 Zombies' sticker. it snowballed from there.
eventually I'd like to replace the bridge but it doesn't bother me too much (other JM has a mastery so this one is basically set up for hardtail use.)

Hey guys! glad I found this, very helpful! I am starting to mod my JMJM right now, I'm going to do the headstock myself, what kind of white paint should I use?

I wish I could do the same....
How long ago did you get it? It seems they've been out of production for a while now..

Man I had been wanting one of those since I got mine, but I was just a poor student then...RIORIO wrote:zaza_3121 wrote:I bought it from John Moore's Staytrem website.

I wonder if the Tonepros rollers have the same height issues as the Schallers?
Graphtech also makes a bridge that has the rounded saddles, but wouldn't the graphite mean you have to ground to the tailpiece somehow?

Re: Show your Squier Mascis JM Mods/Improvements
The AOM replacement staytrem has been out of production for a little while. The standard staytrem 9.5 (your link) doesn't fit the AOM thimbles that are stock to the JMJM and classic player guitars....zaza_3121 wrote:Guys, it's in stock.. http://staytrem.com/epages/950002362.sf ... ducts/1009

Well I didn't say I have the AOM replacement, did I?
I just answered the question.

In all fairness, it wasn't unreasonable for people to assume you used the AOM replacement bridge from your post, given that it does exist and you didn't mention having had to do any extra work to get it to fit.zaza_3121 wrote:Well I didn't say I have the AOM replacement, did I?

Would you mind sharing with us what work you did to get the standard Staytrem bridge fitted?
