Re: Is a mustang an offset?
Well, the little "offset countour body" decal only appears on the models that have that big sagging butt that causes you can't use a straight guitar stand with these things. The mustang has a straight ass (and lacks that decal, I think), so IMHO it isn't. It's still a cool guitar though.
This is wehere Doug (fullerplast) should jump in with the original patent text ("awkwardness substantially eliminated") .

I use a straight guitar stand for it and it's not a problem at all.Orang Goreng wrote: Well, the little "offset countour body" decal only appears on the models that have that big sagging butt that causes you can't use a straight guitar stand with these things. Re: Is a mustang an offset?
The Mustang also has the OFFSET Contour Body logo on the headstock!
The upper and lower bouts are offset... that's what mattered to Leo. When the 'stang debuted in '64, the JM and Jag were already established as the top of the Fender line, and Leo's "better idea". The 'stang body was shifted offset from the pre-II Duo-sonic body. In fact, the Duo and MM were redisigned with the new offset body. It all seems to suggest that in Leo's mind... offset is where it's at. The offset is not a lapse in judgement on Leo's part, as the $trat guys would have us believe.
It counts.

Re: Is a mustang an offset?
And at $699 street, its a pretty good price too. I was going to get a vintage mustang for my 9.5yr old son as he outgrows his Squier Mini-$trat, but reissue looks kinda nice to me right now...donnyII wrote: I played one of the re-issues the other day at a guitar shop. it wasnt bad at all, the pick-ups sounded killer.

Re: Is a mustang an offset?
That's the most realistic CIJ reissue that I've seen, and the ONLY CIJ offset reissue I've seen with a correct logo.
But to be fair, I don't think the CIJ Jags and JMs are actually reissues, just an interpretation of an era (like the MIM Classics). It appears as though this Mustang IS actually a proper reissue. Maybe Fender allowed a more accurate release because they do not offer the Mustang in the US or MIM line, so no competition... unlike the Jag and JM.

Re: Is a mustang an offset?
Doug - you're right, it is a CIJ, I missed that it was part of the "classic series" which can be made in mexico or japan. More pictures are found here -I'm still considering it for the little guy...

If you dig mustangs, I heard the new '65 is unbeatable.
