Re: My first Jaguar - impressions
Alright, new challenge.. the ground wire in the trem cavity. Here's mine:
So should there be a staple holding this down? I couldn't get onto the link someone supplied above to Doug's guitar, I don't think I have enough posts as yet!

If that's a CIJ, I don't think they get stapled. I mean, you could if you wanted to, but it's not necessary.
Just bend the wire forward and make sure the bare part is on the surface where it will be squished by the trem plate. I would wrap the bare part around the forward right trem mount screw (viewed from behind). That will make sure it stays put and contacts the metal trem base.

Here's some shots from my '66 Partsmaster:
What I was saying above is that you could just wrap the wire around the screw (instead of stapling it).
Either way is fine, as long as it makes contact with the plate.

Thanks for the help Fullerplast, not only for the grounding tips but also tantalising my eyes with the colour of that Partsmaster. Simply gorgeous!
I've just ordered a roll of copper foil tape so I'll line the cavities when it arrives, hopefully tomorrow. I'll then set the trem and ground wire up so if the postal service is on my side, I'll be up and running by Saturday evening.

Thanks! I have a thread on that partsmaster, if you're interested in reading up on it.
It started out as just a pickguard from eBay...

The thread makes for great reading. Great looking guitar and a very pretty girl playing it too! Can't go wrong really! I'm in total agreeance on the blocks and binding element. I want my Jazzmaster to have the blocks, both of my Ibanez ES-355s have blocks and they look great. I have a feeling the deal I thought I'd agreed to get a black CIJ JM body has fallen through so I'm going to have to start over again. Still, I've got the Jag to play with for now so all is good.

Oh I know. It felt like telling your high school girl teachers that you had a crush on them. No need to wrry about me, going through a divorce right now so women are the enemy and guitars are my salvation

It's his daughter so Doug must protect. He'll chop you up and make you into witch hats.

Can't I be made into a nice amber 3-way switch tip instead?

Re: My first Jaguar - impressions
Well, it seems the deal I thought I'd struck on a JM body has fallen through. Poo. To help me get over the loss and disappointment, I'm going to buy a JM from Japan. Oh yes.
The Jag is coming laong nicely. Had to stop work over the weekend as I realise I have imperial hex allen keys and i need metric ones. This means this afternoon I must walk through the rain into town, buy some keys and then walk back in the same rain. One thing you can always count on is rain during Wimbledon fortnight.
