How are the new MIM Jazz Basses?

Post by TheMilford » Wed May 16, 2007 5:11 pm

9.5" radius? Not really excited about that... Polyester finish...

there are so many deal breakers for me with these but I need a backup bass and just can't afford a new Rick... (Let alone a new CS Jazz)

GODDAMMIT!!! WHY CAN"T THEY OFFER THE GEDDY LEE JAZZ IN LEFTY!!!

I'd be all over that.

Never played an MIM Jazz Bass, but have played many MIM Telecasters. They usually sound pretty good, and have really nice finishes. The only complaint I can think if is sometimes the frets protrude and need a little filing, and the necks aren't usually stained (pale maple >:(). Most MIM guitars are good quality, good woods. I would still upgrade the pups, though, if it was me.

Funny.. I actually prefer the "untinted" look of maple.

Thanks for the info!

I bought my MIM Jazz (fretless)  used.  It's probably a 2001.  I had to replace a pot, but other than that, stellar!  The finish is great, the neck has started to tint with age.  Totally satisfied!

So... I'm really thinkng of marching up there today and buying this:

I like the idea of an ash version... It would be less messy to strip when I decide to refinish it in Oly white :).

I'll be putting a Baddass II on it right away and maybe even a Tort guard.

...and in the meantime I'll have a backup for gigs.

Milford, you do know that the ash will take more prep work than alder, right?  Ash has more pores that need filling and sealing.

Yeah I dig... but it won't have tons of color to get  all over the place when I sand or strip it.
