That thing is cool...  somebody posted a CAR one here once as well.  I wonder if the pickups are more like a real JM or like the typical MIJ/CIJ

I really like the look of that Greco Jazzmaster. The ibanez is pretty ugly, in my opinion. The pickguard is pretty good looking and convincing for the time it was made. Go Greco!

I was wondering that to, given the history of Japanese pickups I'd be surprised if they were correct. But then the rest of the guitar seems fairly correct so who knows?
It's not about the gear! It's about you, your hands, your imagination, your feelings.

The Greco copies were very high quality.  In fact, the reason the quit making them, is they began to make the guitars for Fender Japan.  They continuted making the other guitars, gibson, etc, as they had no deals there, but its why you dont see them making fender stuff anymore.

Greco stuff IS very high quality, I owned the firebird that mjet mentioned was sold here, and it was GREAT!  The hardware wasnt the best, but it was certainly serviceable, and the guitar as a whole beats the pants off of current production Gibson Firebirds hands down.

Also, if you ever played an Ibanez Iceman from the 70s, that was a greco guitar as well.  They were simultaneously marketed under both names at the time, but the Ibanez was all we saw in the states.  Interestingly, you can still order a high end MIJ Greco "Iceman" today.

I have both Greco and Ibanez Les Paul copies, and while the Ibanez is a fantastic guitar (it's my first guitar actually, I'll never part with it) the Greco is the better-feeling guitar.  It really is super high-quality and I wouldn't be surprised if that Jazzmaster copy is worth every penny.  I would buy it myself if I had the money.

If anyone's interested, Ishibashi has a 1980 Greco Jaguar in CAR for under $700:  http://www.ishibashi.co.jp/u_box/ubox.c ... &tid=list3

That link points to a Boss pedal now - I think the links shift often.

Here's a photo:

I just came across this catalog shot from 1980 with both the Greco Jazzmaster & Jaguar (and a mod mannequin, it seems):

This piqued my interest, so I checked further and found that he looked every bit as much plastic three years later, with a slight shift in makeup leanings:

Question of the day:

Do you think that the 1983 Masami Tsuchiya looked back at that 1980 photo and said "geez, I really looked like a dork back then"?

And nowadays, looking like David Bowie:

How funny is it that a Japanese musician actually names his album "Rice Music"?

Masami Tsuchiya was in Japan's live band - you can hear his work on their live album Oil On Canvas, which I prefer to their studio stuff as it's rougher around the edges. He's quite a nice guitarist, creates a good ambience.

I have one of those Ibanez copies. The pick guard and finish look totally different than in that old catalog picture. Anyone got questions about it? I'd be glad to share!

Masami Tsuchiya looks just like a female english teacher would throughout their career in a public high school or middle school.
