He's using a LPB Marr in this video (which is pretty good, BTW)

That bit about Isaac Brock with the flying goggles and a jug of wine cracked me up - Modest Mouse is a big influence of mine and it's still crazy to think Johnny ever played with them. Cool to get some backstory to the jag too. Thanks for sharing! Gotta get my hands on a JM jag eventually.

Given that the signature is on the headstock I'd say it's almost certain this is the next production color.

I had the white one but sold it because I had another Jag I liked better and the neck on the Marr was slightly thicker than what I prefer. It was still pretty awesome and I might pick one up again if I can avoid the upcoming Fiesta Red Jazzmaster.

I hope the announcement of LPB being the next color will free up anyone willing to sell me their Sherwood Green

This is making me slightly crazy! I’ve been doing some research to see if there are any other clues. It looks like JM leaked the SG release on his Twitter feed in May 2014 and people were buying them around September. Also, releasing new colors in conjunction with album release seems to be a common thing, but I haven’t looked too deeply into that. Considering that the new color hasn’t even been announced and the new album comes out June 15, it might be a while before we see a LPB on the market. And I doubt retailers are going to be selling them for less than $1,799. I’m torn on whether to get a new one now on sale or wait for news on the LPB.

You should wait, obviously.

Yes, you should wait. There will always be a sale at some point but there will be few LPBs. And judging by the Sherwood, you will probably be able to buy the LPB at full retail and still not lose money if you decide to sell it.

But waiting is hard ;)

Yeah, you guys are right. There’s always going to be a sale (I hope) if I keep my eyes peeled for one. Worst case scenario is they do a very limited run and I end up buying a used one in another color, which is still no loss other than time with a great guitar.

Well - this is the interesting question (IMHO):

Sherwood run = 250 = Sold out all on pre-orders almost immediately
Black Run = 500 = Available at a heavy discount to this day
3rd run (LPB?) = ???

If its 500 then we are all good for availability and I am sure the breakers will have bodies and parts for sale if someone just wanted a loaded body. If its 250 make sure to have your favorite stores on speed dial and your Credit Card handy to get in line.

Mr Marr has been pretty clear in the past that his requirements for his signature was MIA and "moderately priced" so I don't think he will support a price gouge. IIRC the "moderately priced" option is why he did not affiliate with the custom shop.

Honestly, given the interest in the Sherwood model I think they would have gone through 500 of those pretty quickly. The 500 black ones have been tough to sell because black is well...kinda boring. I suspect a run of 500 in LPB would move pretty fast.

Holy cow, I had no idea the Sherwood was so rare! Mine was hanging around the local shop for a while.

I agree. I was one click away from buying the black one at a heavy discount when I saw that video with JM holding a LPB model with his name on the headstock. The black one is cool but it’s not that inspiring. I think a Tele looks way cooler in black on black. If I can wait long enough for a LPB I would love to get my hands on one, but as has just been pointed out, that might happen only at full price. Plus I might have to wait a year for it to come out. Hmm. Oly White for 2/3 of the MSRP suddenly doesn’t seem so bad...

Probably yes but as a comparison (custom color offset): I really wonder how many of the ThinSkin Jazzmasters Wildwood has sold from the latest run? 100 of each color? That might be an indicator of what kind of market truly exists for the custom color runs.

On this forum, we might be a lot more inclined to want to buy them because we like offsets and custom colors, but how is that compared to the wider player base (that actually buys guitars new). I am kind of thinking out loud here - If Fender thinks they can sell them, and stores think they can sell them, then we should get enough. If Fender/stores remember the black ones taking up space and having to be discounted then maybe not.

One thing you have to keep in mind though: Wildwood's pretty firm about their prices, and $2349 is in the lower end for a mint Fender CS JM. You'd prob get a 10-15% discount from other online retailers.

I also think the black jagumarr is pretty bland. If it had a matching headstock (and a white guard) though .... 8)

I agree completely with this - but then again I like matching headstocks and Mr Marr does not....
