Re: J Mascis Fender Giveaway Jazzmaster
To add to the resurrection: he was playing the Squier signature model when he sat in with the Roots on the Fallon show the other week. But really, what's so bad about picking a vintage Jazzmaster you've been playing for years over your own entry-level signature model? Can't fault him for that, or for the fact that he generally plays a Tele and a P90 Gibson when he records. He can play whatever he likes in my book.

I honestly have no clue who that is. I've only played guitar for 26 years thoughRumorsOFsurF wrote:
Eric Johnson is pretty much universally known among guitar players. He's in about every third issue of any guitar magazine that's published. Not that I like the guy, but he's well known. Your argument doesn't hold water.

In the spirit of commenting on a 3 year old thread (it's here, so why not?):
I never understood why bands/people sign the bodies of guitars. Realistically, it makes so much more sense to sign the pickguard (both for the sake of ease, as I'd imagine Sharpie over lacquer doesn't always take), but it would make the guitar a little more...usable in the future.

The Sonic Youth JMs are cheaper than the AVRIs. And, IMHO, better.RumorsOFsurF wrote:I disagree. I feel that the Muddy Waters Tele is(was?) a great guitar for the money. I've also heard a lot of good things about the Eric Johnson Strat. (and I hate EJ's playing)mtldad wrote:personally, i think that all artist guitars, from fender to Gibson to ibanez are overpriced and over rated...
Also, what about the Les Paul?

There is nothing wrong with an ibanez rg. They are great guitars for the price.budda12ax7 wrote:True....but why enter then flip it for an Ibanez RG....why enter at all.....sure you can get free stuff....this doesn't make sense. oh well...i'll look for it on CL.
They're not pretty like an offset but the are real tough and they have been the first decent guitar for many of us that couldn't afford a fender.

Current photo of the Fender Dinosaur Jr. Contest Guitar.
I still got it.
I play it in the house quite a bit.
Signatures as good as the day I got it.

Although I'll never understand why someone would choose a glitter finish (esp purple) for their signature model, I do think that the aesthetics of the guitar along with the signatures makes for a cool wall piece. I don't think I'd ever play that out tho.

Glitter finishes are awesome. They're over the top, and completely self indulgent. What's not to love.

I'd play it... proudly too, once I figured out how to get all that scribbling off of it.

J likes purple, seriously, look at all of his signature gear and it's all in purple, and he gets everything else he can find in purple. As for the glitter, well, aesthetic is in the eye of the beholder (plus glitter looks really good on stage ).stleon2 wrote:Although I'll never understand why someone would choose a glitter finish (esp purple) for their signature model, I do think that the aesthetics of the guitar along with the signatures makes for a cool wall piece.
