1964 Partsmaster, What's It Worth?

Post by enormous » Sun Mar 25, 2007 4:33 pm

Please let me know if this post isn't kosher.

I recently tracked down a couple of Travis Beans (a TB1000S and a TB2000) and pretty drained my entire savings ( :-[)  No regrets though, it was worth it.  Anyway, I am now in the uncomfortable position of acquiring some currency and unfortunately all that I have to sell is my '67 Bassman (Allen Modded) and my 1964 Partsmaster.  I will post the Bassman in the For Sale section soon, but back to the question.

The Jazzmaster I will be selling is made from all of the best stuff I could find at the time.  The body, tremolo, shielding plates, and strap buttons are all from a '64.  The neck is from an AVRI, the pickups are Novaks (the BEST), a Fender G&G case, and finally, the anodized Scottish pickguard.  I would rather avoid eBay if possiible, but to post on most guitar forums you need a price.  How much is a guitar like this worth?  Any advice on price is greatly appreciated.  If questions like this are frowned upon, I will delete the thread.

Here are a few pictures  ;).

It is definitely difficult to estimate a price for something like this. Ultimately it's worth whatever someone else is willing to pay, but that doesn't help much right now. IMO, it's worth a similar amount to a stock AVRI. If it were mine, I would probably try for $1400 or so. I think it will appeal mostly to folks who are looking at AVRIs. It's hard to tell though. At any rate, good luck! And post photos of the Beans ASAP!!

I agree, it'll be kinda in the AVRI ballpark. Without vintage pups and neck it isn't really a vintage guitar IMHO .. but then part of the appeal of an AVRI is buying a shiny new Fender guitar and it isn't really that either.

It looks lovely though .. I think your best bet might actually be to put it on ebay with loads of nice pictures. All you need is two guys who fall in love with it and the price could wind up anywhere.

BTW your post is absolutely fine, but perhaps asking a bunch of guys what something is worth when you're about to try and sell it to them is not perfect sales technique! (Er .. $20?  :D  )

That's a really nice looking guitar. Makes me realize how good a black JM with matching headstock and gold guard would look. Don't think I've ever seen a pic of one.

that's exactly the guitar I'm planning to build eventually right down to the vintage trem and Novak pickups.. it gorgeous!  I wish I had the money right now but I've got to pay off a XII I have on hold.. anyway I think you could definitely get at least the $1400 ilsf suggests, personally if no one here bought it and it went up on ebay I'd start it a little lower than that for the reserve and add a few hundred for a BIN, someone might jump on it. I guess it mostly depends on what you have into it and expect back, if you don't mind dropping me a pm with that info I'd be really grateful as I've been wondering what something like this will wind up costing me  ???

I'd pay $1400 for that.

And if I hadn't gotten stiffed on an Ebay auction this weekend, I'd be happy to Paypal the money this very second.

Apparently, many buyers have trouble seeing the "WILL ONLY SHIP TO THE U.S. AND CANADA" portion of an auction.

But I digress...

Thanks for the comments, and don't worry, I've got some Bean pics on the way.  I'm very pleased to say that I scored a BLACK TB1000S  8).

Oh man, I bet it looks amazing. I was looking for a black one when I got my TB1000S, but I ran across one with a Magnolia body and Imron coated neck instead. I don't regret it but I sure do love black  :?  :D

If you are worried about value, I suppose you could try selling all the parts separately? You might be able to make more that way. Just a suggestion.  :)
