Black PU covers-Vintage Jazzmasters
Were black pickup covers ever standard on early Jazzmasters? Was this ad accurate, or was it an early ad, made before the design was final? Looks like knurled knobs (Tele style) too.

I found this on Tom Arnold's (not the actor) Jazz and Jag tribute page ( http://www.webrocker.de/jaguar/v2/index ... brocker.de )
I think he is an FDPer, but is he a member here?

I'll take the blue one. Thank you very much.

I like the look of the black pickup covers. Even though it is a black and white image, I imagine that 3TS, a gold guard, and those black covers is a nice look.
Cool thread.

Yeah, he drops around now and again.RumorsOFsurF wrote: FDPer, but is he a member here?
The black pup covers were on one of the prototypes IIRC. By the look of zhiv's photos there were some early regular production models that somehow acquired them as well, although I hadn't heard of that before.

I heard somewhere that the late CBS models had black covers as well

I've got a black set that I'm thinking of putting on my IBM + gold guard when the new guards arrive.

Where did you get them, luau?luau wrote: I've got a black set that I'm thinking of putting on my IBM + gold guard when the new guards arrive.
I've been looking for some of these for half a year, at least...
I had exactly the same plans for them, too

GPR's ebay store. When I got the gold guard I have now from them, I noticed them in their store, snatched them up, and had everything shipped together. They don't seem to have any now though.

Ooh, thanks for the link, luau.
I wouldn't mind the idea of trying them with my gold guard either. I do like that look.

See the odd thing about those pictures is if they are as rare as we are all thinking, what are the odds of a place having two at the same time?

Re: Black PU covers-Vintage Jazzmasters
Aren't they pics of before and after a sonic blue refin of the same guitar? The wear pattern on the gold guard sure looks the same... And it would explain the cleanliness and freshness of the blue paint and the odds of having two gold-guard-black-pups JM's at the same place!zhivago wrote:very good point...glimmertwin wrote: See the odd thing about those pictures is if they are as rare as we are all thinking, what are the odds of a place having two at the same time?
