What's the most trustworthy guitar you've used?

Post by Naturality » Sun Mar 18, 2007 6:07 am

The title has the question, you have the answer. :D
I think J Mascis has significant proof that the Jazzmaster is No.1

Les Pauls. My '56 reissue is insane. After the strings are stretched, it doesn't need tuned again until the next set. I've never owned a Tele, or any hardtail Fender for that matter, but I can see how they'd top the trustworthy list.

My 94 MIJ, that guitar has been everywhere with me. Never goes out of tune, and always sounds beautiful.

Similar to the Mascis story...

On one of the Fluf CDs (Classic Years maybe) they tell a story about rolling their van on the freeway. They claim the Mustangs were still in tune afterwards.

My 74 strat - never goes out of tune when I use the vibrato arm. Great guitar once I had the neck refretted, planed and straightened.

my Gibson SG special is probably the most solid guitar I have - I've dropped it a silly amount of times, and it's been solid the whole time.

all three vintage Jazzmasters I've owned were rock-solid...they stayed in tune forever, and I'd trust any one of them as my only guitar for gigs.

years were 1967, 1964, and my current 1961
Resident Spartan.

my '59 jazzmaster, absolutely rock solid tuning. Play a gig put it a case fly 300 miles get it out of case for next gig at soundcheck, still perfectly in tune  :D

Yeah... it's hard to beat a basic slab of ash with no trem and simple, basic electronics. There's practically nothing you can do to harm them... a true workhorse.

Now, if the question was "favorite" my answer would be Jazzmaster. But IMO you can't beat the Tele for durability/reliability.

Yeah, my tele.
The most consistent guitar I own. Has caused me very little trouble over the years.

Then your's is special, and you should cherish it!  Most are made out of balsa wood and seperating the headstock from the neck, or the neck from the body can be done with a stern glance!!!!!!! Love those guitars, Zappa, Angus, Tony Iommi, Clapton, Townshend...  Strat, tele, Les Paul, SG.  The four headed snake rock guitar god...  I'll never own another due to their delicacy.  Congrats on getting a great piece of wood.  Treat it well, if you have to replace it, don't expect the same performance.
May God bless the Banjo Players... They try so hard...
