AVRI Jag in CAR with matched headstock..?
I'm about to make an offer on a '00 AVRI Jaguar in CAR with matched headstock. They are obviously quite rare, never seen one before. At first I thought it was MIJ/CIJ, asked for more pictures and it is definitely the real thing.
Does anybody have any info on those?

It could be an MIJ neck on an AVRI body? Or something along those lines.

I don't think so. The decal seems correct, the markings on the neck heel seem to be authentic...

I've heard about there being some AVRIs with matching headstocks made for the Japanese market... saw a BMM one a while back, was beautiful.

There was a Sonic Blue w/matching headstock on eBay not long ago. It was from a NAMM show IIRC.

That sounds like the CS that lalalandstudios was selling .. ah, here's the thread, with the pics still in place. Nice guitar.

That must be it. The timing is right. I didn't think it was a CS or reliced but maybe it was. I don't know, I forget these things quickly on guitars I'd like to have but don't end up getting. It's a defense mechanism I guess. I noticed it right after I got my AVRI and didn't buy it for that reason. Sorry for the mix up.

But aren't we talking about a Jaguar here? Those NAMM guitars were all Jazzmasters, IIRC.
Were there Jaguars made like that?

There is / was a shell pink with matching headstock AVRI in Jacksons Rare Guitars here in Sydney that looked legit. I don't know how they got out, Fender Special Run?

Probably the NAMM run. I saw those - one in every custom finish w/matching headstocks. If I can find my pictures from that NAMM show, I'll get them scanned.

Wasn't that a JM too? The BMM matching headstock AVRI I saw was a Jag, btw.scottme wrote: There is / was a shell pink with matching headstock AVRI in Jacksons Rare Guitars here in Sydney that looked legit. I don't know how they got out, Fender Special Run?

Re: AVRI Jag in CAR with matched headstock..?
Thank you all, this is getting very interesting. Special edition for japanese market or a NAMM one-off... there are some old Frontlines I have that I just leafed through, obviously CAR was discontinued after year 2000. There's no mention of matching headstocks.
Any other ideas, links, photos, anything to prove this thing really exists? I saw excellent, very detailed photos of the guitar in question, but I want to be sure. I have 9 hours before the auction ends.

Well. It does exist.
And it's mine now. The seller got it off his business partner from Japan, so the theory of a Japan-only special run seems correct. The Jag is in well-played but excellent condition, functioning smoothly. Light to medium weight, very loud acoustic resonance, surprisingly long sustain - and matched headstock!

That is really beautiful!! Those colours are so much better with a matching headstock!Jungleman wrote: Well. It does exist.
