Opinions: Squier Vintage Modified Fretless Jazz Bass

OK, I just spent too much money on an XII and have a line on a Bass V from someone on the board so something has to go, like my Lakland Skyline Hollowbody Fretless.  I dont' play fretless that much,and I'm only OK at playing it,  but don't want to be without one.  I've heard and read great things about the very low cost Squier Vintage Modified Fretless Jazz Bass.  I know Maggieo on the board got one.

A few questions:

1.  If you own one or have played it, how are they for a fretless.  Can you get the singing "mwah" out of it?  Like Jaco or Mark Egan.

2. How is the build quality?

FYI, I did own a Fender Jaco bass for a bit but it just didn't do it for me.  Perhaps because the truss rod setup was traditional (heel end) and I couldn't get the neck relief really flat, which I think is a requirement for "mwah".  My uneducated opinion is that a truss rod with a neck end adjustment works better for getting the relief flat all the way down to the nut.
