Yeah, mine has the 13. I don't think I have ever seen a '66 that didn't, but I'm not positive.

ok. just double checking.

the list, thus far........

It should have the witch hat knobs for being a '67.

Does it still have the original tremelo arm?

Also, does it have F tuners or Klusons? The Klusons are generally more desirable and are worth a bit more.

Is the headstock matched to the body? If not, does it look like it still has the original finish and logo?
If the neck still has all of the original finish and the original logo, that would be a selling point for me.

If there did happen to be any changed hardware and things like that, they can be tracked down later, but once an original finish is gone, it's gone for good.

check the wiring. It should be cloth covered still.
You could write down the pot codes to make sure they're correct.

There are a couple websites that help decipher the codes. You could print some of that out and take it with you.
The neckplate should be an "F" plate with a number somewhere around 180000 to 210000.

#13, was a left over Strat neck

The original pickups for that era should be dated and gray in color
also check the pots and wiring.. varying color cloth wire is original.. plastic isn't.

The neck plate should be an F plate and like Justin mentioned you'll either have Klusons or F tuners

It looks like making sure it has the original pickguard was left out.  That's a big one as nice original tortoise is great and repro generally stinks.  An easy way to tell is to look for sign of shrinkage.  Some signs to look for: the pickguard bevel will be shallower as the top layer shrinks more then the bottom, a little warping is common, original tortoise usually has a lot more richness and depth of color then repro stuff which tends to be brown and mottled looking.

try craigslist and guitars shows. 2000.00 is to much for the jazzmaster you talked about.

$2k is about on par or a little lower than ones in similar shape have been selling for. They aren't as cheap as they used to be.

Especially from a dealer.  Private sellers, maybe a little less.  I find it worth a little extra to buy from a dealer I know and trust, especially if they take care of me.

That number's closer to a '71 F plate, IIRC.  Might be a partsocaster?  Not that there's anything wrong with that if it plays well, just don't pay premium $ for it.

on sookwinders serial # thread there is one '67 JM near a 3##### serial number.. not sure if that means anything as far as it being original to the guitar though  ???

Image

both of the 66's I've had are 1#####

looking forward to seeing those pics  8)

I've got a 37**** F plate that came off of a late '70/early '71 Tele.
