and seeing all these lovely pictures...

so i just ordered an Epiphone Dot Super Exclusive from Music123 !!!
cherry, of course...
their special lot has block inlays
for the same price as one with dots from Musician's Friend...
couldn't resist!

i think if enough people wrote Tony Dudzik at www.pickguardian.com and asked for REAL tortoise made in Italy or wherever the same stuff is being made, just like the vintage 60's nitro stuff... he just might order a batch!
it's like hellaexpensive
i think someone said they'd have to order a huge batch from that company
skid load
which is like 3'x4'x3or4'

a single VI guard would probably cost 2 or 3 times more than a regular pickguard order
but i'd definitely order one or three...

probably half the new CS VI owners would get one too...

not to mention all the vintage VI, Jag, Jazzmaster AND strat&tele&pbass/jazzbass owners in the world...

somebody with more drive than me needs to get the ball rolling on this!

I thought he has REAL nitro tort now, he made me a nice one that is very close to Fender 60's for a strat ....

Image

Zoom it up, its pretty pretty good
:o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

that actually is pretty good....quite close to the originals!

Frank, this deserves a thread of it's own!!!

I have pretty much that same pickguard on an olympic white strat. I wonder if I could somehow age it a bit? letting it sit in coffee over night? maybe?

http://pickguardian.com/pickguardian/

"Celluloid Nitrate Tortoise Update

Nitro tortoise is slowly becoming available again, but at a 25% price increase.
Please contact us for pricing on all Tortoise projects"

Now please know, I have NO affiliation, Alfred actually turned me onto this, and tony (pickguardian) made me a nice pickguard. Not cheap, but perfect fit, and nice nitro tort. I thought more people knew, but I was wrong.
I'm a reasonable man get off my case...

What do you guys think of the tort on my strat?

Here is Musicman's take on the tort?  Do we need a "Tort Thread"?

I like the look of those pickguards, but not the super red ones or the ones that look like vomit. It's either vintage or that one. Is your action high or is it just me?

Yeah she needs a set up, I have been giving all my love to the offsets this past year.

i DEFINITELY like the CS VI the best.

the LPB strat looks exactly like the WD tort that i got from Tony

i did not know that he had real nitro tort
last time i checked, he only had real nitro "parchment"
which is what i got for my '63 Inca parts VI
(looks amazing btw)
or maybe i just FORGOT he had some nitro tort... :)

if i could CHOOSE the blank, then i'd GLADLY pay the upcharge ;D

hmm
maybe i'll make my first 4switch with the tort guard...
the bridge post holes don't quite line up right on the VI guards from Tony
but that's because the NOS guard i sent him had a slight warp
and i can't remember if it had ever been mounted before that time...

Gizzorge's CS VI tort really is so much better than i had expected
i like lots of yellow
it's still a bit darker than i like...
but that's about as close to perfect as i would ever hope for!

Here are two pics of the tort on my recent AVRI Jazzy.  I think Fender is finally getting their tort a little better:

that DOES look really good...
almost exactly like the CS VI

i'd like it to be a lil more red
but i think i'm in the minority there... most people prefer "browned out"
so that's who they targeted with this latest recreation

I'm also a fan of the redder tort.

There is nothing more sexy that Oly white with a reddish tort guard

It's kind of a shitty picture (I took it to try to show the finish checking) but you can see the tortoise on my VI too. It looks prett much just like Gizzorge's VI and flatfiver's JM. I was (am) pretty happy with it. IMO, it's big improvement over the tortoise Fender Japan uses and also over what Fender USA was using.

Yep. There are two checks that go entirely around the body. They are just checks in the lacquer and aren't in the wood. They saved me $400 so I'm pretty pleased  :) About half of the other guitars I own have them anyway, so it fits in well. They actually aren't very noticable at all, only in certain lights and angles (like that photo).
