Re: NGD: 60th Anniversary '58 Jazzmaster
good to see this joining the family! i saw one at NAMM when it was announced, i played it and was impressed. i was considering buying one, but it was enough like my original 1959 JM, that there wasn't much point - other than the black pup covers on the gold guard, which was almost irresistible (my '59 has tort). it definitely suits the vibe of the earliest JM's!
i never saw one in the wild anyway, and i had already gotten that guard/pup combo on a custom-order Doheny as influenced by the '58.
i like the darker dots - you said 'clay' as if they're not clay. they do look different than most clay i've seen, but it's definitely better than the standard white. do you know what they used?
cheers and may the honeymoon rock on!

Update: I have a set of Mojo 58/62 (?) that I’m gonna put it as they’re going spare.
However- the high e- it’s like there’s some sort of sympathetic vibration happening when open and fretted. It’s not the nut, not the height of the action, and it’s clear of the bridge edge etc. I even tried another Staytrem on it- same thing.
I’m thinking it might be the bridge thimble/cup? Anyone else experience this before?
EDIT: Are the Mastery Thimbles a drop-in replacement? I know the tolerance 'internally' is tighter but I don't want to fanny about. I'll probably give the existing ones a little knock to see if they are maybe not sitting as tightly as they should first... thoughts?

I got the chance to play a few of these when they came out. They are indeed a different monster tonally. I didn't know that about the pickups, but that would explain it.
