If I read that sign correctly (it's very small) it says the neck is a '62 reissue $trat neck. But it has a walnut plug at the top, which the $trat RI would not have. It is a $trat neck though, based on the headstock and lack of blocks. I remember Jim saying that these are around... but I thought there were more than four.

It looks more like an Am Std neck, but they didn't come about until '83.  I think I've read that the JM hung on til '83. Maybe that is what this is. Parts dated '82 would not be odd in that case, and perhaps threw whomever made this display. And who did, by the way? Where is this from?

Sounds like the sort of screwy stuff that Fender was doing right before/during the sale from CBS.

I also think Jim said some of these had maple necks! All leftover parts...

:o

I'd expect a black guard on these too!

Looks like a post-bullet (four bolt) Smith-era Strat neck.  Hmm.
Destiny's in her evening gown; you're always running late.
You tell her she looks wonderful but she'll just have to wait.

I have a 1982 Strat neck (E2xxxx) that's still the large 70s headstock and a three-bolt setup. It must have been one of the last ones out of the factory with that late a decal slapped on it before going with the Smith Strat headstocks.

I had a Gold/Gold '81 Strat Limited Edition (Heavier than ANY Les Paul I've ever owned, but really purty!) with that identical headstock AND Logo.
It was the guitar pictured in the '81/82 (Reissue intro) catalog.  They made those guitars into '82.

That Jazzmaster is an odd duck, but I agree that they were bolting all kinds of stuff together back then!
