Thanks for all the help guys. I agree with the consensus that the headstock is refinished. Everything else besides the neck plate looks and feels original.
I am in love with this thing. Super fast neck and sounds amazing!

Even though it's technically a mod, adding a finished headstock to a Sherwood AVRI is just about the only way to make one even sexier.
A Sherwood AVRI has always been my white whale. The ads announcing the AVRI guitars was what made me truly fall in love with the looks of these guitars.

That’s a dream guitar for me. I think the matching headstock is one mid that adds obvious sex appeal and truly makes this a one-of-a-kind guitar. What an awesome score!

That does look really nice. My Sherwood AVRI62 has an aftermarket decal on it too after the original rubbed off (or something), but not the cool matching headstock treatment.
I think someone mentioned it earlier in the thread, but 'syncronized' is spelled as 'synchronized', which did not occur on AVRI62 decals. Funnily enough, my aftermarket decal has the same wrong spelling.jakeisjake wrote: ↑Wed Sep 23, 2020 3:19 amSo I went and looked at the headstock close up...what is misspelled?

Totally! I still remember seeing those ads in magazines when they came out. This one is a total dream. I was watching it on reverb for fun.
I love the headstock refin. Still miss my old black AVRI.

Thanks everyone! She is everything I've wanted, not a single regret on my end. The pickups sound amazing! I definitely like them better than the pure vintage 65's I have in the white MIJ.

If I was a byrd, I'd be mighty sore every time they shut the door and I don't think I'd sing...

Re: NGD 62 reissue Jazzmaster Sherwood Green with matching headstock. What do I have??
It is very weird. The body and neck are clearly both original to one another (Dec 16, 1999 date on the neck, Jan 5 2000 date on the body). Perhaps the original plate was lost/misplaced while the headstock was being refinished and another was purchased in order to sell it later as an 'authentic' Fender (Fender neckplates show up on ebay quite frequently).
To the OP/buyer: make sure you take off the pickguard and look under the hood. You should see brass shielding tubes in the body cavities and very neat cloth wiring with masking tape holding it in place in a few areas (they did this last part for the earlier AVRI62s, but not for the later ones). If not, it has had some mods at one point. You should also have the pickguard shield underneath.

I must say that that American Special/Highway One neck on the JM looks pretty neat, actually.

I finally finished all the mods on my thinskin '62 AVRI Jazzmaster. I had Lollar pups put in, a Mastery bridge, Spitfire tort guard, and setup with 13's.

Just for the sake of clarity - "syncronized" is actually a wrong spelling, but it's how the word was spelled on the original Fender 50s-60s and AVRI decals.sunburster wrote: ↑Wed Sep 23, 2020 7:17 pmI think someone mentioned it earlier in the thread, but 'syncronized' is spelled as 'synchronized', which did not occur on AVRI62 decals. Japanese Fender and aftermarket decals spell the word "synchronized" which is the correct English spelling, but differs from the original.
Like when Leo called the Strat bridge a "tremolo" bridge (it's a vibrato because it changes the pitch, tremolo means making the sound louder and softer). This mistake forced them to call the actual-tremolo feature on their amps a "vibrato" instead.

Yes, I'm well aware, that's why I said "synchronized" is the "wrong spelling" for the decal instead of a "misspelling".MatthewK wrote: ↑Fri Sep 25, 2020 10:35 pmJust for the sake of clarity - "syncronized" is actually a wrong spelling, but it's how the word was spelled on the original Fender 50s-60s and AVRI decals.sunburster wrote: ↑Wed Sep 23, 2020 7:17 pmI think someone mentioned it earlier in the thread, but 'syncronized' is spelled as 'synchronized', which did not occur on AVRI62 decals. I knew you knew, that was for the benefit of anyone unfamiliar with the fiddly details!
