Squier J Mascis/Jazzmaster Deluxe replacements

Post by jonobolton » Sat Jul 04, 2020 3:34 am

I've got a Squier Jazzmaster Deluxe and I'm looking to change the gold anodised pickguard for white or very light mint green. Can anyone point me in the direction of a suitable replacement? It's the same spec as the J Mascis JM and from what I understand, Fender AVRI pickguards drop straight in. I'm in the UK though and we don't seem to have as many options over here. Ideally I'd like a very pale mint green but I'd also like it to have a sharp bevel around the screw hole above the neck; a lot of aftermarket replacements seem to have a curve around the screw hole.

The subject should of course say PICKGUARD replacements :fp:

I just bought this one.
Fits perfectly and has the proper sharp edge around the neck pocket.
It's designed for the MIM classic player series but will fit a J mascis. The hole around the bridge might be an issue for some but it looks cool to me.

Thanks. I went ahead and ordered one from Allparts at the weekend which should hopefully do the job.

Ah, I just read that you already ordered - then for the future! ;)

You got at least two great options:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/earlpilanz - Brian makes great pickguards in my opinion! Bought from him multiple times! And he should have two shades of Mint - a greenish one (of which you can see a picture here: http://www.offsetguitars.com/forums/vie ... 4&start=15) and one that is more pale as you describe it. He has a great and deep assortment - and offers scans to print - so that you can check the screw-holes and all.
But he is not taking orders until Monday 13th of July. So you got to be a little patient - as this also means that you can't look through his shop.
(EDIT: I think he even is from Glasgow too!)

And you got your own WD music store in the UK - they also have a broad and deep pickguard collection.https://www.wdmusic.co.uk/search/jazzmaster- a bit more expensive than Earl Pilanz and 6 weeks delivery time as they're made in the US it seems - but maybe they have some in stock.

Oh don't do the that!
The ALLPARTS pickguards only fit MIJ Jazzmasters.

Are you sure? This is the description from the Aalparts UK site:

"Pickguard for Fender® Jazzmaster® guitar. Intended for most '62 Jazzmaster® USA models. May work on some imports."

Thanks for those. WD had next-to-nothing in stock when I looked and I'm impatient but they do have a large selection.

I managed to find the Earl Pilanz ebay store through a Google image search and found the relevant listing for the JM pickguards (even though it's not searchable on ebay just now), so if the Allparts guard doesn't work out then I'll drop them a message

Yeah these only fit japanese jazzmasters.

They fit a little bit on other bodies if you're willing to redrill most of the holes, ha.

What's funny about that? I bought this on good faith that it would be suitable for my guitar based on Allparts' description, and you're telling me that it will only fit a Japanese version. I fail to see the funny side.

Ah, I see they still haven't fixed the misleading copy about their (shit) pickguards after all these years.

Send it back, there's way too much futzing around getting them to sit 'right', and even then they still never look right on an American-spec body.

If you want mint, go Fender. That's the only option in my opinion - everything else is too green. I have a USA Fender mint guard on my deluxe, and it fits perfectly and looks great. Just FYI in case the one you got doesn't work out.

Yeah, sorry. Didn't mean to laugh at your situation.
It was more a "ha" out of frustration for you.
