The issues aren't anything major, just a few small things that add up to be annoying. Some small marks on the finish (which would happen eventually through use, just annoying to get it out of the box like that), the nut seems like it was cut with a piece of paper, it definitely needs to be filed a bit more, and there's buzz on the two top strings played open, which might be because of the nut or bridge related? Not sure, because I've never played a JM with the Mustang style bridge until now. The tone knob is not straight (or is it supposed to be 'offset'?), so it rubs the pick guard and because that's metal, it seems to have ground off a little bit of plastic as there's a small ring of knob dust on the pick guard. And there's some glue or something in the truss rod hole which just looks ugly, again it could be addressed, but annoying that this seemingly wasn't caught at the factory.

It's just a bit off-putting and annoying when I've had £120 guitars that have been nicer out of the box than this.

The metallic purple is very cool though.
Mine was the same. A small scuff in the paint and on the edge of the scratch plate.
I also had the tone knob catching and leaving a plastic dust ring! Squier are consistent :D
My lower strings rattled until I replaced the flimsy 9 gauge strings with 10-48 gauge Ernie Ball Ultra Slinky’s. Definitely an improvement but the top strings seem to be catching in the nut now.
Going to get my tech to work on it next week. I think it’s worth getting set up, it sounds and plays fantastic just needs tweaking.

Hah. I'm also in Canada, also own an MIJ Mascis (which has aged to Ruby Slipper and doesn't remotely resemble purple anymore), and also want this bad, but lament the exchange rate.

It's a gorgeous shade of purple, though, if the photo is an accurate representation.
Mine has gone “ lRuby Slipper” too! I don’t even call it purple anymore. Ruby or raspberry is what it is.

This new model is closer to J’s actual guitar. I didn’t know Fender Japan changed it? J has said he likes Metal flake, but his actual Jazzmaster is more of a Crown Royal purple like this. It’s almost a dark blue.
I almost got one of the MIJ ones at a pawn shop back in grad school, but the colors (purple and gold) were the same as UW and I just couldn’t do it. Kicking myself now, of course, but it would have taken years to get past the rah rah “bow down to Washington” vibe.

Enjoying reading all the reviews here. I’m so tempted at a great price point. But I think I’m being a bit of a snob as I really have my eye on a Jazzmaster Ultra in Mocha Burst...

Am I imagining things, or does that pickguard look thicker (and beveled) compared to previous gold anodized guards issued on Squiers?

Got one today. It's nice, but there are a few QC issues with mine unfortunately.
Good deals with: Kracdown, 2fLAz, Britfingers, Stereordinary, Reynman, Jay

Just got mine back from my tech.
He re-cut the nut and shimmed the neck which seems to be a common job on Jazzmasters!
Good tuning stability now and feels better with the 10-48 strings.
I wonder if any more unusual colours will appear after this FSR run?

FYI, looks like they're out of stock at both CME and Anderton's now.

Mine gets here tomorrow, probably gonna be looking to get a full neck pocket shim from StewMac...

Oh, yeah. Sorry I kind of forgot about this post lmao.

Here it is with my AVRI:
Image

The good:
Feels really damn solid, like wow.
Switches and pots all feel top notch, no noise when fucking with the controls.
Pickups seem to be actual JM pickups? Doesn't sound too far off from my AVRI, if anything just treblier.
The bridge doesn't rattle and when you fuck with the trem arm and also rocks back and forth which is nice, doesn't go out of tune easy either.
The beveled thick-ass gold pickguard is really fuckin' nice.
Kobe!

The bad:
The fretboard is drier than sand.
I wish they'd used clay dots instead of whatever this mop-looking thing is.
Trem arm makes a little noise when I fuck w/ it and am not strumming.
Might need a .25 pocket shim from StewMac, action isn't unplayable but I like it a bit lower.

The ugly:
rip maestro morricone
There's a weird purple smudge on the heel of the neck
Image

All in all I'm pretty happy with my purchase, I haven't had a chance to take it apart but I haven't needed to, it's quiet and plays great.

That’s great.
They do seem really solid, a couple of applications of lemmon oil sorted my fretboard. Feels fine now.
