Re: Cheap Jaguar copies
IF I could find a Jag for 300, I would have bought one in a heartbeat. The lowest I have seen in months has been 330 used plus shipping, and I have been looking hard.
This was 300 less than a new Squier.
I am going to feel fine modding/exploring/tweaking this one. A Squier wouldn't be needing that, or I wouldn't do that with a Squier.
I have a Squier JM, awesome. I have a reverse silverburst LTD edition Squier Strat, awesome.
I wanted a cheap guitar I could screw around with, not a Jag.
As for "garbage"? One mans trash is another mans treasure....I am not one of those "buy a JM then throw a Mastery at it" types. I am a builder and tech. I know how to make "garbage" into gold....got the spinning wheel in the back room.

Describe "hideous".

Re: Cheap Jaguar copies
I mean they do look like a copy of an offset built by people who have never seen one and only heard vague descriptions of them

Re: Cheap Jaguar copies
I think part of it is the way the photos are shot. Even if it's not an "exact" replica, I really don't care. I was eyeballing SG copies, and a lot of those are almost offsets.... LP copies are never accurate, and some look better then Gibby's.
I mean, offsets are "weird" from the outset, so "weirder" is o.k.
HS Thompson- "It never got weird enough".

Did I mention I have a Hannah Montana guitar, and a couple First Act's? Strange guitars are in me blood.

.
Check out the Harley Benton models. I remember them having a couple of offsets.
G&L Doheny, but not in the cheap category unless they have a Tribute version now.
Rondo had some.

G&L does make a tribute Doheny. They were announced at NAMM the same year they released the US version.

Re: Cheap Jaguar copies
Jaguar-like objects have seemed to be rarer than JM-alikes, other than on Aliexpress.
Maybe that's changing. Two cropped up today ...

Re: Cheap Jaguar copies
I have looked at the HB's. I have a 3 of those (LP Cherryburst with humbuckets nice guitar, PU are kinda muddy, LP Goldtop with P90's- AWESOME, and a Vintage P Bass with the single coil.
They have a Jazzmaster-ish and a Mustangy....no Jags.
I got those back when shipping was 33 dollars, and the guitars were 108 dollars, the bass was 90.
Shipping is 50 now and the prices are slightly higher.

Re: Cheap Jaguar copies
Just to update- I bought the funky Jag copy....and with shipping it was well under 200 dollars.
Can't touch that with a ten foot pole.
If I wanted a Squier Jag, I would have shelled out the 449 and bought one. Nobody has a Squier Jag for 300 bucks.....the main focus of this thread was to see if anybody had the weirdo knock off I bought.

Re: Cheap Jaguar copies
I did. I bought their Jagstang version and it was a vile piece of shit.
Hence my original advice. I wouldn't buy that even if it was $20.
Weird can be cool, these are just poorly made with inaccurate measurements all over.

Wow, you must have gotten a really bad one.
I have seen "vile pieces of shit" from Gibson in the past, as well as other companies when you factor in the "dollars per turd" component...
A good re-read through this thread will tell you why I bought one,and why I started this thread.

Re: Cheap Jaguar copies
The one with less metal on it looks like a kit guitar I've seen on a few different sites. I believe many of these cheaper guitars are just finished kits. The kits have always looked like fun to build but worried about the end result.
It looks a bit unorthodox but if you like it, you like it. I had considered grabbing a kit and customizing the heck out of it. It looks kind of like the Marauder body shape that was built in China by Fender several years back, and considered making a Marauder influenced guitar with one for kicks but never pulled the trigger.
If you have the skills to finish it, a kit could be a good way to go if you're looking for cheap guitars with a few custom options. It also lets you save a little $ for a decent setup/fret dressing if needed (which it might).
