I don't know if this helps, but here is sonic blue, metallic blue, and lake placid blue together.

Re: Fender Blues color spectrum
Haha thanks! Yeah the neck is all I had at that point, but honestly really liked it at the time and didn't mind the truss rod adjust at the headstock. It's possible that once I get it back I'll find another neck for it, it's been years since I played it and my preferences have changed a bit. I figured I'd use the Mastery for tele as it fits the same footprint as stock and if I want to swap for a toploader bridge/no bigsby, but looking back now the regular bigsby bridge has grown on me aesthetically. It's a partscaster anyway, so maybe other things will get swapped around...

Re: Fender Blues color spectrum
There isn't any official literature out there on the back stripes but I can say I've seen a handful of these over the past 20 years and they typically only appear on very early comp. mustangs. Have to assume it was too tricky or time consuming to line the strips up at the body edges so someone in the factory made the call to do front stripes only.

There was an OSG member that had done some research on this and he claims it wasn't red but actually purple sprayed on top of the blue.Mechanical Birds wrote: ↑Thu May 21, 2020 10:38 pm
Never seen one quite like this before. It’s like they used the trans red as the clear coat instead of just the outside border

I only said the thing about red because a guy who does finishes I know did a refin for what I think was a blacktop Jazzmaster in comp burgundy and that’s what he said - lake placid with trans red around the outline

Any pics of the jazzy available? I've seen a couple examples of people who tried that.
Wait, was it this one?

That's my CP JM that I had refinished by Stike/Rowyko Kustoms. I'm actually currently converting it into a 12 string & I'm waiting on him to finish a Musikraft neck that I bought with a matching headstock.FenderBob wrote: ↑Wed May 27, 2020 3:51 amMechanical Birds wrote: ↑Wed May 27, 2020 3:32 amI only said the thing about red because a guy who does finishes I know did a refin for what I think was a blacktop Jazzmaster in comp burgundy and that’s what he said - lake placid with trans red around the outline

The version he did was a color called Mariners Turquoise & then sprayed the burst with what I think was called Candy Purple. The comp stripe is Daphne & the whole thing had a slight aged clear coat. Not a 100% faithful recreation of the original (not a whole lot of information I've found), but what we thought would be a cool approximation of how it may have looked brand new.

Thanks! Very cool. Based on the serial numbers yours is certainly older than mine. I like the look of that. More complete.FenderBob wrote: ↑Wed May 27, 2020 2:41 am

Here's mine: (L) Fender Lee Ranaldo Jazzmaster, Sapphire Blue Transparent; and (R) Fender '62 AVRI Jazzmaster, Ice Blue Metallic.

This thread is problematicaly awesome. Love the blue to green spectrum offsets, I have all sunburst and black now. This makes me think dangerous thoughts about trade-ins and refins.

That might be the most beautiful tele I've ever seen. Good idea to change the pickguard to pearloid, it looks great with that color blue.

^^^^^^^ I was going to post to say the very same thing! That is an absolutely gorgeous custom color Tele.
I have 24 Electric guitars - among them are Lake Placid Blue, Sonic Blue, Daphne Blue, Sherwood Green, and Surf Green. I like blues/greens...….but the color that I have never owned and really lust for is Ocean Turquoise Metallic. I really should thin the herd not add to it, but can't get an OTM Jazzmaster out of my head…...

Re: Fender Blues color spectrum
Can anybody enlighten me if are there actually two official Ocean Turquoise colours? I always knew it as Ocean Turquoise Metallic (OTM) but the current Fender literature calls it simply Ocean Turquoise (OT) on recent models. It looks identical to me - i.e. very slightly metallic in the right light but nowhere near as much as, say, Ice Blue Metallic. Either way it’s a gorgeous colour.
Below is my 2011 Sonic Blue CP 60’s Strat next to my OT Vintera Jag. The Sonic Blue is the same super-pale shade mentioned in other posts in this thread.
I happen to love the shade of Sonic Blue. You can’t tell from the photo but despite being a poly finish it seems to be ageing / yellowing a bit over time, particularly around the contoured edges. Not sure why that would be the case….Could it be that the paint or finish is thinner in those places? I get that a curved surface equals more area to cover compared to a flat surface, but I assumed that spray-painting ensures a perfectly even finish. Either way, it looks nice and I’m happy.
I also had a VM Jag in Surf Green which I modded with parchment pickguard and aged white pickup covers. Always loved that combo but ultimately found the Surf Green to be a bit disappointingly pale/pastel compared to a more vibrant Seafoam Green (which may well be my favourite Fender colour along with OT).
Finally, any fans of Cerulean Blue? It’s an absolutely amazing colour. I saw one of these Strats in my local shop a couple of years ago and it was even more beautiful in real life:
