Hey everyone, thanks for the kind words :)

Especially cool that you popped in here Jazzprod! I was hoping you'd see this because you've been a large part in this collection. Thank you for your help on everything.

I do have to admit, I love matching headstocks. Custom colors deserve matching headstocks. As for the P bass... I feel like everyone needs a good P bass. It's like a Jaguar to a Jazzmaster. That being said I play the Burgundy Mist Jazzbass more often. I think it cuts through the mix. But it's also my newest creation.

I went back and forth on if the P bass should have a matching headstock. Even Danocaster (who I hope pops in here!) was kind of reluctant, but sided with 'the customer is always right', I'd imagine. It does seem a little unorthodox. But in Fender.. never say never. I Googled around and found there were.. supposedly.. SOME instances of a P bass with matching headstock. Sadly time has killed the links, so I can only go off of the old forums posts. Nothing says it was impossible - but incredibly and highly unlikely. So I went with it. Dan killed the color and I love it.

My favorite color is the Jazzprod Firemist Silver Jazzbass, my favorite guitar is either the Fender XII or the very newly acquired Bass VI. I wanted a Firemist Gold Fender XII before I even owned a guitar. I'm a bassist first but dabble in guitar and drums. That's the one I know I'll die with.

But I play the Jaguar the most as it nails the old surf guitar sound. That's a great playing Jaguar. Big 15 Flatwounds.

As for the lack of a Jazzmaster... Yeah.. I want one. But I feel I'd continue to play the Jaguar more since it nails what I want to do (surf). I do want to build either a type 1 or type 2 Marauder in either Shoreline Gold or Sherwood. That will probably be the next project.

Stay tuned tomorrow for the amp pic I play everything out of :)

interesting. I never could make a jaguar work for surf despite formerly owning two of them. surf is pretty much all i play anymore, but always more the dick dale/later man or astroman kind. maybe i need to try 15 gauge strings?

do you mind giving me some Jaguar heavy surf to check out? I want to buy a jaguar to see if I can get on with one again.

He didn't make very many. I originally was going to get a guitar from him. But the waiting list was like 6 months. By the time it came around to me and Dano messaged me I needed a bass for the project I was involved in. He was initially reluctant to do a P bass with a matching headstock. But it WAS technically possible. And a very few P bass examples existed that I was able to show Danocaster to get it done. It was also theoretically possible to get a refinish by Fender - or a Jazz Bass neck on a P bass. So he did do a P bass matching headstock build. The ONLY one he ever did - by the way,

So while it was unlikely to have a P bass with a matching headstock - it was technically possible. Dano used to say that he wasn't interested in doing stuff that wasn't 'periodically correct'... So it took some convincing. Despite him doing some stuff that definitely wasn't periodically correct. - Like humbucker teles or a 1962 Firemist Silver Bass VI - which wouldn't have been offered until 1965....

Wow - not sure how i missed this thread until now.

Awesome collection, and picturing them in lush green grass with little purple flowers just sets everything off. Really nice!

I think i mentioned this elsewhere, but your XII replica was a huge inspiration for mine

Is there a thread with more pics of your VI ? It looks sensational!

Cheers.

I don't think you've told me that! That's really cool it inspired you. I posted in your topic - I actually love Charcoal Frost. I almost allllmost chose that on my build. I just had to use Firemist Gold.

Your build is perfect, hell, I think better and more 'correct' than mine. I play mine all the time.

There is no thread of the Bass VI.. but I think I'll get round to making a topic on it soon, then! I love that damn thing too.

Hey I have always heard of Man or Astro-Man but until I read this I never listened. They are super cool. Thanks for the heads up
