Submarine pickups

Post by Stephen_42 » Wed Jan 22, 2020 10:51 am

I keep getting this as a sponsored ad on Facebook, so I thought I'd have a look:

Seems an interesting idea, if a bit gimmicky. £99 (£199 for the 'pro' version) is too much for me to try on a whim, but might be cool for experimenting with behind-the-bridge pickups in a reversible way.

Who could resist slapping extra pickups on their guitar when it allows them to make the harmonious and authentically guitar-sounding tones such as these?

The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

Yeah, their sound samples are awful. It's like they couldn't think of a good use for their own product.

But it would be cool for behind the bridge sounds, I agree with that. Very expensive.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

early on you could get the basic one for like £60. i dunno why it's so big tho, they have a smaller one but it's a whole pickup, the flatpup exists. the basic submarine is a great idea imo - a low profile pickup that picks up one or two strings - but it's expensive and not low profile enough imo.

Just FYI, they're having a 25% flash sale right now that I came across on my Instagram...

I have one that I got back in 2016. Really cool product IMHO. I was just doing solo songwriting at the time, so I stuck it underneath the low E and A strings, ran it into an OC-3, and from there straight into a bass amp. I got a strong, clear low end signal to accompany my spaced out guitar playing. Much easier solution than installing a P Bass pup in your Strat like Local H did.
