Vintera JM manuals arrive

Post by timtam » Mon Nov 25, 2019 5:19 pm

We've been wondering about some of the parts on these ...

Vintera_60's_Jazzmaster

https://www.fmicassets.com/Damroot/Orig ... master.pdf
From the web page blurb ...
" REVOICED 60s JAZZMASTER PICKUPS We revoiced the pickups to be more 60s-accurate. They’re full of the warm, rich tone that made Fender instruments famous."
And this is them ...
PU ASSY 65 JAZZMASTER NK MEX AGD WHT 7716107000
PU ASSY 65 JAZZMASTER BRG MEX AGD WHT 7716108000

A pleasing development .. pickup specs now listed in manual (albeit absolute minimum) ...
Neck A5 north 6.1-7.5 kOhms
Bridge A5 south 6.1-7.5 kOhms

MUSTANG BRIDGE W/THREADED SADDLES 7705076000 ... this is a new part number, AFAIK only used on this guitar and the Vintera jag so far ...
('mustang with threaded saddles' = contradictory .. it's vintage JM style )
Strangely lists the hex key for the saddles as 0.070" (1.78mm) ... all previous imperials are 0.05"/1.27mm, or 1.5mm if import metric.

TREM ASSY, JG/JAZ CHR W/O ARM 0076232049 .. the Classic Player trem (screw-in arm), as predicted

Vintera_60's_Jazzmaster_Modified

Blurb ...
" HOT 60s JAZZMASTER PICKUPS We redesigned this guitar’s pickups. They’re packed with the bell-like, articulate tone that made Fender famous—only hotter."
This is them ...
PU ASSY HOT JAZZMASTER NK MEX AGD WHT 7716050000
PU ASSY HOT JAZZMASTER BRG MEX AGD WHT 7716049000

Neck A5 north 6.2-6.8 kOhms
Bridge A5 south 6.5-7.1 kOhms

BRIDGE ASSY T-O-M w/POSTS, INSERTS CHROM 0076230049 ... ie Classic Player AOM/TOM
TREM ASSY, JG/JAZ CHR W/O ARM 0076232049 .. also CP trem

Those "hot" pickups don't really seem too hot. Sounds like it just means the bridge is wound hotter than the neck by a small margin. Would be interested to try these out.

I've actually just bought a Vintera Jazzmaster, and the pickups are both about 7k, with grey bobbins. They are wound a little bit hotter than the AV65 (that usually are about 6.5k). They sound great, the AV65 are sometimes slightly too thin sounding IMO.
The saddles look slightly bigger in diameter than the AV65 bridge ones.
The neck feels a lot like the AV65 ones, 41mm at the nut, with 21mm thickness at the first fret.
Nicely cut nut, Switchcraft switches and CTS pots.
A great guitar overall, with very good sustain.
