Re: Why Jaguar?
And when there's also mustang basses, amps & bridges... but "deluxe" must be the worst, what with the American line, the Mexican line, the amps, the cases, the Telecaster models and sellers' inability to put items under the correct category

Re: Why Jaguar?
I think it just goes with the racing / car themes that shows up in Fender's line... Mustang, Bronco, Cyclone, Toronado, and some of them even with competition stripes.

I might be wrong but I've heard the Stratocaster was named after the B-52 Stratofortress.

Leo used another aeronautical reference in naming the Musicman Sabre (after the Korea-era fighter known as the F86 Sabre.) When he subsequently started G&L, the first model the company released was named the F100 ; in substance the guitar was an enhanced Musicman Sabre. Not coincidentally, the corresponding F100 fighter was an enhanced F86 - called the ‘Super Sabre.’

Re: Why Jaguar?
im guessing it was a "glamour by association" kinda thing. the e-type was a aspiration car at the time and conjured images of glamorous couples jet setting off to the rivera. i think leo fender wanted to very much capture that idea. i think that's also why the guitar was styled with as much chrome as it was. at that period in car design, chrome was considered fancy.
i'm glad fender dont name their guitars after current cars. i dont think we need a fender juke.

I dunno, I'd love a guitar named the qashqai. That's a fun word. It apparently means "a horse with a white face."s_mcsleazy wrote: ↑Tue Nov 12, 2019 11:50 ami'm glad fender dont name their guitars after current cars. i dont think we need a fender juke.
Maybe I need to build a Mustang project with a white headstock and get a qashqai decal made

Re: Why Jaguar?
So if the consensus is that the guitar is named after a British car then the correct pronunciation is "jag-you-are" as opposed to "jag-wah", correct?

Re: Why Jaguar?
For an American to say Jag-u-ar smacks of pretentiousness. Here it is Jag-war. On the other hand, if I heard a Brit not pronounce it that way, it would sound strange.

Re: Why Jaguar?
You guys are in for a treat if you visit Australia (aka Straya).
Here, Stratocaster sounds like “street-cars-tyre”, Telecaster sound like “tally-cars-tyre”, and Jazzmaster sounds like “jizz-muster”.
We can’t pronounce Jaguar at all, so we just point at it and grunt.
