Man that bottom neck looks like it dropped into a batch of good Masala (or had a lot of vitamin B ahem).

There is a world of difference. I agree about the Garam Masala thing too. The headstock on mine actually matches my Classic lacquer 60s Jag in the colour department. Looking at the 2, I'm not overly happy about the new logo either, looks really cheap and just plain ugly. Especially the Fender logo, now in wonderful block capital letters....yuch!
Ok, I'm definitely in the market now for a used!!

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know a good tuner replacement for the JM Jazzmaster? Thank you in advance.

The new logo looks like a cheap repro decal

Starting to think I should have gone for the JMJM back in 2014 instead of the squier vmjm.

Re: 2019 J Mascis Jazzmaster Changes
Been checking these out a bit more.
Wondering what the consensus is?
I don’t see any older models being advertised as such, so the demand doesn’t seem to have gone up for the older models compared to the ones you can buy in store brand new.
Could be wrong though. I haven’t managed to try one in person yet.

The darker finish looks more like the finish used on the Fender J Mascis (purple sparkle).Steadyriot. wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2019 12:23 amMan that bottom neck looks like it dropped into a batch of good Masala (or had a lot of vitamin B ahem).
This thread makes me regret trading off my Purple Mascis. The neck was the greatest.
Overall, it was really heavy. It couldn't have actually been Basswood.

What;s a good weight for one of these? I understand as production guitars they'll never be featherweight, but would 8 lbs be on the lighter side? Or should I hold out for one that might be lighter, closer to 7?

Re: 2019 J Mascis Jazzmaster Changes
Coming from the Telecaster world, I was hoping to find one in the 7lb range, but soon realized that it would probably never happen. Checking vendor sites that listed weights told me the 8-9 lbs was the going rate. I settled on a lovely AO at 8lbs 3 oz., which considering the deal I was offered made it a no brainer.

Found an older model (CGS serial) in a shop brand new, didn't take long to hunt down.
Considering picking it up as like the idea of the neck on the older ones.

Re: 2019 J Mascis Jazzmaster Changes
Are there any differences in terms of build/finish quality between the CY and the CGS instruments? The new Paranormal range of Squiers have a CY serial number, but according to the Andertons video review of the Paranormals, it's still the same factory that manufactured the Classic Vibe range and some of the Artist Series instruments like the J Mascis, Biffy Clyro guitar & bass etc.prospect wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2019 10:56 amYep. This is a CY19 serial number. The older ones I have are CGS serial numbers.alexpigment wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2019 10:39 amI thought they switched to Laurel in 2018 around the same time that Fender MIM switched to Pau Ferro - maybe they did it in late 2017 though. At any rate, the 2019 neck looks like *rosewood* to me.
Also a quick look at Sweetwater (they have 4 models in stock with their pictures) doesn't match the looks of your 2019 at all. Have you checked your serial number to make sure the 2019 is not old stock?
The ones currently on Sweetwater match my 2019 sans pickguard that I swapped.
