Knobs

Post by Stephen_42 » Thu Apr 18, 2019 4:12 am

Was going to post this in reply to something on the guitar family thread, but thought it probably deserved one of its own.

Does anyone have any cool / unusual guitar knobs? There were 'cupcake' knobs posted there, I've got some celtic style ones on my Jag... Anyone else?

Posting this partly out of curiosity to see what other people have, also as a resource for finding interesting parts for probably the easiest mod anyone could ever do. Let's face it, standard Jaguar knobs / Strat knobs especially are boring as hell.

I got mine from Thomann, they have a nice selection. Anywhere else?

I've always had a slight urge to put Hofner bass knobs on a guitar, but I really hate how solid shaft knobs always seem to rotate off-centered in my past experience. Maybe I'm just doing it wrong.

If you mean what I think you mean, it might be cause the shaft is much narrower than the hole in the pot. It's often the case if you put a set screw knob on a split shaft.

I've had luck using a cut off bit of plastic straw to fill the space and make sure it's snug before I even screw it in

Well, I was using conversion bushings on standard CTS split shaft pots. I assume the size is the same (and they did seem snug). I just think the act of screwing them in inherently makes them slightly off center. It's possible an actual solid shaft pot might not do this, but I can't recall.

Here's something I'm dying to know in regards to this thread. How come I can find white fender witch hat knobs for a Jazzmaster pretty much anywhere on the web but if I want to find the black witch hats for a Jaguar that Fender only puts on some models I cannot find them anywhere? These are the same ones on they're currently putting on the new Player series Jags just for reference.

Those aren't technically witch hat knobs. Those are more like amp knobs really. Anyway, here you go:

https://www.amazon.com/Fender-72-Teleca ... 005SUU8JU/

They use these on the Tele Deluxe and Tele Customs, so it's better to search for those.

These would look pretty great on an Ocean Turquoise Jazzy...

I ordered these for my lipstick JM build that will use solid shaft pots.

http://www.armadilloguitar.com/shopping ... ucts_id=35

I contacted the seller who is also the maker and he agreed to sell me two instead of three and reamed them out for the solid shaft pots.

I should probably check fit on my Tele, but they are super cool and I can’t wait to get them on my guitar.

Can anyone recommend some knobs for a Jazz bass I'm doing? Standard pots, so 1/4" solid shaft. The normal ones or Tele style (chrome or black) would work, but just wondering what else I could go with. It's a deep 'candy apple green' finish, the hardware will be black. Haven't done the pickguard yet, will probably be white or black.

You can get all kinds of amazing 30s-60s radio knobs on Ebay, often for not very much.

Not used any on a guitar, but have a stash for pedals and they look really cool

i mean check these out
