Post by robroe » Mon Apr 15, 2019 5:43 am

Not sure if this has been posted here before but i found this link snooping around the fender site.
appears its not set up yet ready to go.
https://shop.fender.com/en-US/electric- ... 00380.html

there are no photos or color choices yet.

CME is already selling 2 of them in Surf Green and Artic White. both appear to be re-badged MG65's with slab bodies, grey bottom pups, and white trap tuners.

Anyone interested can look at Fender’s Japan site, where they’ve been available for a while now.

I wonder if there'd be much of a gap in quality between these and the new classic vibe Mustangs?

I would assume that the build quality is quite a bit better on the Japanese one, but the Classic Vibe may have the specs you prefer (radius, frets, neck shape, etc). Just not really an apples-to-apples comparison. More directly answering your question, I've found that MIJ/CIJ guitars cut some corners on parts, but the quality of the body/neck and other parts that count are great. If the new Classic Vibes are anything like the Vintage Modified - and I assume they are - the quality control is going to be pretty hit or miss.

The original Classic Vibes from the China factory are truly ones that give MIJ guitars a run for their money (though they didn't make a Mustang). Thoughtfully chosen specs, will take American parts easily, shockingly good quality control, cheaper than MIM.
