Very cool with the matching headstock. The fretboard is just wood, stain it dark an it will look and play just like a nice old rosewood board.

True enough. Most UK retailers seem to be listing them so I'll be keeping an eye out and will see if I can try one out. Another price rise though it looks like.

If the fretboard was rosewood I think you’d be picking something else out. I’m not attacking you, so please don’t take it that way, i’s just that forum tire kickers drive me nuts.

It's a stock pic anyway. My pao ferro neck is darker than my previous rosewood (avri) and nearly as dark as my current rosewood fingerboard JM.

Hey Mr. Grouch.

To be honest, when it comes to most of the quibbles a lot of the offset community have, non vintage fretboard radius, trems with no lock button, non traditional bridge placements, poly vs nitro, non matching headstocks etc.......I'm totally easy. I just hate the look of most of the pau ferro boards I've seen. I don't discriminate though, I hate pale anaemic looking rosewood too. But in my experience, pau ferro is more likely to be pale than rosewood. Although I have seen some interesting pau ferro boards with darker streaks in them. And the guy on here who showed his pau ferro board after he'd oiled it made it look more palatable.

I just thought other people might be interested in this as shell pink always seems to be a popular finish.

:)

I just can't believe they'd pair shell pink with tort :-X :k That needs a mint or parchment guard...

Absolutely. Other than the fact that stock Fender tort looks terrible at the best of times, Shell Pink is just about the last colour I want to see it on.

Easily enough remedied, but still. Mint and parchment look so much better.

I like it. Couldn't afford it, though.

Most of the pau ferro necks I've seen in person have been as equally pale as the stock photos but definitely good to know that darker examples are out there :)

I guess it helps that I selected the darkest I could find on Sweetwater

A while back Gibson was using some alternate woods, the baked maple, I had obeche for a while there... I'm over the whole thing where a neck has to be rosewood. It doesn't make any difference. I'm sure pau ferro would be just fine also.

And I do agree that it looks a little light in this image, but the day that wood can't be stained darker is the day I eat my hat (although I never got around to staining by baked maple Firebird and I kind of want to).
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

Pao Ferro looks a lot better in person. I have a 2018 60th Anniversary and it had "all the specs" besides the fretboard wood. It looked streaky in the photos but I took a chance and it just looks kind of old in real life. Old and streaky, but good.

I vastly prefer rosewood, but the real tragedy is that it's a relic.
