NGD (I'm one of those d-bags now)

Post by Larry Mal » Sat Jan 26, 2019 6:58 am

Hi all! I got a fun new instrument yesterday and I was curious if anyone wanted to guess what it is? I'll give clues and such.

Here's the first one: I'm pretty sure it's clear to everyone by now that I'm pretty much a douchebag, and you think, sure- how can that be any different? Well, it can. It did! I've taken a bold step in a new direction that can only provide considerable embarrassment to Mrs. Larry, who was kind enough to let me buy this instrument out of budget (it was a good deal). I told her to watch out for me pontificating about this thing at parties if we ever get invited to another party and to prepare to knock over her wine glass as a distraction if it gets too bad.

It will.

Man. Anybody got a guess?

Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

That would do it, all right! Shit, I could go on about scalloped frets and Middle Eastern exotic scales... man. That would bring the party to a screeching halt!

Not that, though. This was a lot cheaper.

No, the neck on this kind of guitar has to be perfectly flat, unlike a lot of other kinds of guitars.

Think of the phrase, "I've been playing a lot of exotic Middle Eastern scales on my (redacted) that I've been using for some jazz-influenced instrumentals I've been writing."

"I'm really getting into microtonality these days," Larry said, sipping his Pouilly-Fumé. "Of course, we can't allow ourselves to forget about paucitonality, which can almost be thought of as the obverse of microtonality, if you think about it."

Across the room Mrs. Larry gazed into the fireplace, alone, her knuckles white on her own glass of wine.

That would be cool!

No, this instrument was made in Mexico, violating my typical "States only" policy.

Here's a hint: I don't even know what a "manouche" is.
