Yeah I was surprised at how large it was compared to a strat, plus the big headstock, a lot of metal... it all adds up.

As someone who makes an effort to support local businesses, it's weird to (supposedly) be on the list of one of the 10 first ordered at the local Guitar Center, then see all of these available on Reverb, even with free shipping and no ca. state taxes (I also believe in supporting state taxes. :jacked: ). I mean, after all, the joint is supposed to be at the center of the guitars.

I would say, for the price, so far the quality described by those who've received theirs seems to far outweigh the defects. I'm expecting to pay for a good setup anyway. I'll probably switch out the pups at some point.

Great thread.

The pickups are really good. Give them a chance. Even the tuners are pretty good. The only component which I'd say is low quality is the pickguard. It's very sloppily cut.

On a basic level, increasing the string gauge just increases the break angle above the bridge, since the core of the strings sit slightly higher.
No man, that’s not why people advocate heavier strings for the offset bridge and trem. Those micro micro inches won’t make a difference. Higher gauge results in greater string tension bearing down on the bridge, so they don’t pop out.
I'm not trying to get deep into the weeds about physics here, but isn't that the same thing? Without the increase in break angle, they would still pop out the exact same way.

Having said that, sure, I get your point. I was really just trying to address the previous post specifically. There are many reasons to increase string gauge, and break angle is just one of them.
No it’s not the same thing.

Increasing string gauge does not increase break angle. It’s negligible. To increase break angle, you raise the bridge or install a Buzz Stop/move the trem forward. Break angle is not a reason to increase string gauge, yes technically there is some difference, but it’s too small to make a difference. The difference between the high E strings for 9s and 10s is one thousandth of an inch. I don’t think you can physically turn a saddle adjustment screw to make up that difference. If that difference has an effect, why are Buzz Stops even a thing?

The thicker a string, the higher the tension it needs to achieve the same note. I’m talking about this tension, not the tension caused by break angle.

Are you thinking about changing yours?

This thread isn't helping my GAS problem! Aside from the video review that reported a weight of over 8 pounds, has anyone heard any other weights? Maybe those of you who own one could kindly chime in on this, please.

Can't decide between the black & 3TS. All I know is that if I get one, I'm modding it with Jazzmaster pickups.
Mine is by far my heaviest guitar out of 22, it's even heavier than my Jazz Bass!

Yeah, go ahead, call me a wimp, but it's very heavy at a horrible 4.8kg (10.6 lbs).
I hope I'm not gonna get called out and get a "10.6!!!! My guitar weighs 5 tons and I play 9 hour long sets with it! You know nothing" in reply.
Thanks for checking the weight! That's ridiculously heavy! I certainly won't call you out. I have 2 basses that weigh that about the same & I can't use them live anymore. 8 lbs is my limit at this point & even that is pushing it due to some injuries; which is partly why I don't own a Les Paul despite wanting one. My main guitar & bass are both in the 7 lb range & I still wouldn't mind going lighter.
Looks like I'll be passing on these. Hopefully the new XII won't be boat anchors because I've wanted a 12-string for about 25 years.

My 66 Jag weighs like 35 pounds it feels like.

10.6 pounds is insane for a Squier Jag holy shit

Yeah, I'm typically someone who doesn't care about guitar weight, but 8.6 lbs is gratuitously heavy. I have lighter basses than that and I never pick a bass for light weight!

I could be talking out of my ass but I always figured Jags tend to be on the heavy side cause of all the chrome and such.
A little bit of that, but I'd say more due to a lot more wood being routed out of a Jazzmaster body for the lower control cavity.

But before getting a Buzz Stop shim the neck. That and a raised bridge takes care of it.

Well, good luck finding a Jag much lighter than that. I've seen some sub-8lb Jags before, but they're pretty rare these days. Even taking a look at the Wildwood Thin Skins, the lightest one available there is 8.75lbs.

Sorry, I had some kind of brain fart while typing that, I was referring to the 10.6lb jag referred to in the posts above mine. I was literally thinking "I have some 8.x lb jags, how is it a full 2 lbs heavier?" and somehow ended up typing 8.6 instead of 10.6.

I own about 9 jags and I think the lightest is around 8.5, but none approach 10.6lbs. That's excessive.

Get yourself one of these https://slingerstraps.com/collections/s ... itar-strap I have them on all my guitars (Mahogany + Aluminium neck Jazzmaster builds) and they have saved my back/shoulders so many problems. We have a fairly active stage show so I really couldn't do them with my heavy-ish guitars without the straps otherwise. Also they don't look as goofy in person I promise ;)
