Well, expect this thread to grow exponentially while OSG buzzes about this new line. Pretty sure this is the end of the VM line though...

I have heard that the other CVs have had relatively thinner necks. But if somehow the neck on this thing is chunky enough for me, holy balls I will be buying one. A Jag with binding and blocks? Good lord.

My CV strats had very, very skinny necks.

The neck has 22 frets, so more likely it is a type. I suspect that bridge is the wide variety, but cool it's a Mustang-style in 9.5" radius.

I ordered mine. Goodbye Duo Sonic...

The ICS serial number and text on the stock photo suggest this is the first Indonesian Classic Vibe (check check). This gives me hope, because there are some big necks on certain VM Jags. My VM Mustang neck is pretty much a baseball bat.

My CV strats had superlative fretwork...better than my American Special Jazzmaster and most of my Mexican Fenders. If this CV Jag is in the same league, I can see myself parting out a few to put those necks on various parts jags I've got. CV-level fretwork and B&B are just going to be too good to pass up.

Again, this is assuming that these live up to previous CV models' standards, but if they do, they'll really be a dream modding platform.

Oh wait, they're Indonesian, not Chinese?

So a completely different factory than previous CVs. Those models earned their reputations based on the incredible quality coming from that Chinese factory. If these are just VMs with different specs, that's a different story.

Guess I'll have to reserve judgement until I can try one out locally.

That's only the stock photo. I remember the AO release photos had some editing leftovers, maybe this is similar. Like you, I'm waiting until I have it in front of me. I'll just return it if it doesn't work out. Even if it's just a new spec 'VM', at least we can enjoy the bone nut, right? :)

They're Indonesian. (If you look closely, you can see "Crafted in Indonesia" on the backs of the headstocks in the links I posted.)

Wondering if CV production will shift to Indonesia, leaving China for... artist models? Other oddball Fender lines like the Modern Players?

Yes, time to pump the brakes a little. There’s no magic in the name “Classic Vibe” - it was the quality of the guitars coming out of the Chinese factories that people loved.

I dunno. I own or have owned a (what turns out to be an alarmingly large) pile of CVs & VMs (CV 60s Tele, CV 50s Tele, Mascis JM, CV Jazz Bass x 2 I think, CV Duo-Sonic, Matt Freeman P-Bass, VM 60s Strat, VM Jazz Bass, VM Jazzmaster Special & VM Jazzmaster for a hot second, etc.) and I'd put the "nicer" VMs up against any of the MIC/CV stuff, with the possible exception of my from-my-cold-dead-hands JMJM. As long as they're taking the right steps in terms of finish and hardware - and it looks like they are - I wouldn't hesitate with any of these. Notably, I'd love to have a cheap Jag to slap an Australian flag sticker on and see if I can't immediately and magically channel some Rowland S. Howard/Gareth Liddiard vibes.

EDIT: "I love cheap guitars," he sighs wistfully, staring at his '66 Jaguar and Bilt.

Maybe it's just a coincidence that Fender's new CVs have left China for Indonesia at the same time the US is ramping up a trade war with China?

Regardless of the reason for the factory switch, I'm going to remain skeptical. The main thing has been that every Chinese CV I've played has had the most delightfully trimmed/leveled/polished frets I've played on anything short of the AV line. No sprout in dry weather, no fretting out or buzzing on high frets. Smooth as glass. Fantastic enough to make me buy two strats even though I don't particularly like strats.
