Squier VMJM tuners

Post by MartySkiver » Tue Jan 22, 2019 3:35 am

I absolutely love my 'Iron Man' VMJM, it suits my needs better than any instrument I have played for many years. But I cannot get on with the vintage-style tuners and much prefer the locking style ones on my MIM Strat. Can anyone help me identify compatible replacements of a similar type? Many thanks.

I assume you mean the Deluxe JM? Vintage Modifieds use a different tuner make, and there are slight differences in the bushing size that may require reaming. The finish is different too, so OCD trigger warning: using the stock bushings might make for a plating mismatch. The Deluxe and J. Mascis use hardware on par with Classic Vibes. Some CVs have tuners made by Ping.

I'd get some Gotohs. They offer two types that will fit in the Kluson split-style footprint. One set is the self-locking, use-a-coin type. They other has a thumb wheel in the back.

I love splits, perfect tuners but hey different strokes and all that.
