Re: American Performer Jazzmaster
We're all acting like Fender hasn't already offered us "real" Jazzmasters...
Come on... We got AV62s, AVRI65s, Thin Skins, CIJs, Squier VMs, Classic Players (they're close enough IMO), the Anniversary Editions and the Classic 60's Lacquers. I think that's plenty of options to choose from.
So what's wrong with a little change? It's not like we HAVE to buy this model from now on. This is NOT a bad guitar.

Re: American Performer Jazzmaster
Agreed. And if all Fender did was put out traditional spec jazzmasters year after year people would complain about the lack of innovations. (I realize putting a strat trem on a JM isn't exactly an innovation, but you all know what I mean). At least this series has some interesting colors!aliendawg wrote: ↑Wed Nov 07, 2018 9:28 amWe're all acting like Fender hasn't already offered us "real" Jazzmasters...

Also, I know I'm in the minority here, but after seeing the offset teles they did, I wouldn't mind a true offset stratocaster...

Not a guitar for me, but at least they got the selector switch right. Moving it to the upper horn on the American Pros was a mistake.

Re: American Performer Jazzmaster
Somehow I think it would've looked better if they had used a more modern style strat trem (two point).

Re: American Performer Jazzmaster
I mean it's fucking lame, right, if you wanted this guitar then why not get the G&L Doheny that Fender is lamely trying to compete with by copying that thing?
At least if you got the Doheny you would get G&L quality and a better tremolo unit than the Fender thing.
This thing is a joke, fuck Fender.

Re: American Performer Jazzmaster
^^^
Pretty much.
There's a ton of room and any number of ways for a jazzmaster to be a jazzmaster, but there are a couple of constants that I'd argue are a requirement:
The shape
The trem, which can be in the original spot or the modern spot which I like and everyone else seems to hate on principle.
The rest of it come what may, and frankly it should, more options is better. But with a strat trem, it's not a jazzmaster no mo'. It loses too much of what makes it a jazzmaster. Just stick strat pickups in there and call it an offset strat, Fender.
Kinda weird how stuck on traditional specs people are, considering how popular it is to mod them up in this forum. But keep the crummy strat trems offa there.

Re: American Performer Jazzmaster
And remember my "Taco Bell" analogy, Taco Bell has like seven or eight ingredients and they mix and match those and act like it's a new dish when the seasoned beef is above the lettuce but below the sour cream and in between the tortilla, as opposed to when the seasoned beef is below the lettuce and on top of the tortilla.*
Fucking boring. Fine, this guitar has shape "D" and has tremolo "1a" and pickups "b3" instead of the "c4s". Who gives a shit, it's in direct contrast from what Fender used to do well, apply original thinking to fresh designs using theory and art and the results were somehow more incredible than you would ever think.
Now we get this shit. I mean, if you can't innovate a product any more then that's fine, just do what you do well, you know? Instead we get this... what is this? Who was asking for this?
*This is a little out of date and unfair to Taco Bell, who have been working hard to successfully add to their core products, with such new items as the Shredded Chicken Mini Quesadillas™ and the new Beefy Nacho Griller™. Fender wishes they had the kind of drive and innovation that you can find at a Taco Bell near you now serving 24 hours select locations.

Re: American Performer Jazzmaster
Meh it’s Fender— they can call it Meteora Deuce or Offset Stratocaster, it’s moot at this point. Buy it or don’t buy it. Make your own, get something else if this hurts the eyes. Electric guitars have been around the block a few times, there is nothing to really innovate. Being a Fender, the inventor of the parts guitar, it shouldn’t be surprising they are bolting on the same old gear, using the same old designs, mix n’ match. I could appreciate this as a person’s build and be kind, so I’ll try the same toward FMIC about this abomination

Re: American Performer Jazzmaster
I'm clowning now. Don't get me wrong, I like Fenders, I have two Jazzmasters, two Telecasters, a G&L Strat, I have a Jaguar, I've owned two Mustangs, I even have a fucking Lead 2 and a Bullet. It's the third Bullet I've owned!
But each of those guitars reflects at least some level of original thinking and design on someone's part, successful or not.
This thing, though...
"So, what's that?"
"Oh, this, you mean? I'm glad you asked! Why, it's the new Fender American Performer Series Jazzmaster™, it's a vintage inspired take on a true Fender classic but still with the modern appointments that make it an alternative modern rock ready guitar and a homage to the mod ethos that permeates-"
"So it's a Jazzmaster kind of but with a Strat tremolo then?"
"Yes."
"Cool."
"Do you want to hear me play it?"
"I actually have to get going."

Re: American Performer Jazzmaster
How can you accuse Fender of copying G&L with a straight face? LMAO
So it's ok for G&L to copy the jazzmaster and put their trem on it... But if Fender does it with a strat trem then they are copying G&L (WHICH COPIED FENDER IN THE FIRST PLACE) and on top of that, it's not a jazzmaster?
Wow

Jaguar > Jazzmaster :)
