My Japanese isn't the best, but I think I was able to deduce that they are calling it a hybrid for three reasons: 1) The colour matches a traditional Japanese fabric dye 2) It has a 9.5 inch neck radius and 3) The maple fretboard.

Not sure if anything else qualifies it as a hybrid. The white rhythm switch is something I haven't seen before either. Looks like a pretty sweet design overall.

The Katakana characters above as per Google translate:

It is a special guitar equipped with an elegant white pearl pigguard wearing the indigo color inspired from indigo which is the traditional Japanese color in the look of the standard model of Fender. Sorry the link didn't work (tried to upload a screen cap but that didn't work either). Easiest way to see it is to select Japanese at the Fender site and search Jazzmaster. Hopefully someone else can upload an image of it.

Edit: Link works for me still. I think Japanese language needs to be default on Fender site for link to work. Kind of a pain I know.

Fender has the incredibly annoying habit of re-directing all URL links back to your local Fender website, even if the URL you enter includes the address for the Japanese site, as in this case. That gets stripped out and if the page doesn't exist locally you can't see it - the above Japanese link gets converted for example into a link to the local Australian site, which doesn't exist ....

One way around it is to reset your location to Japan with a VPN (simplest is the free Hola in Chrome).
STOP PRESS: Better .. use the method others have described to change region on the Fender page.

My guess is that Fender don't want you to see how much some markets are ripped off in terms of pricing compared to the US. Or which models you can't buy locally.

You don't need a VPN. Go to the bottom of the page and click the "Regional Change" link. Choose Japan in there, and then click the URL in the OP, and it all works.

Thanks. It worked ! Dumped me at the main JP home page at first, but then the OP's direct URL or searching for 'hybrid jazzmaster' works.

wouldnt look as nice with a rosewood neck. that maple makes it stand out and pop.

Does anyone know what it's meant to be a hybrid of? To me it looks 100% Jazzmaster.

It’s just marketing nonsense it’s not a hybrid of anything. Like MAYBE because it has a maple neck? Dumb haha

That thing looks awesome, almost Doheny-like. I hope they have some models for the US!

According to the Japanese introduction the "hybrid" part is in the spec: satin finish neck, vintage locking tuners. Seems like this MIJ hybrid series is basically vintage models with modern specs.

Leave it to Japan to come up with something that Fender USA has been doing such a bad job at: a Vintage-modern with specs people actually want.
