What goal do you have in mind in replacing the bridge? Better tuning stability? Different tone?tommycarlos wrote: ↑Wed Oct 24, 2018 2:43 pmSo let's say I wanted a different bridge...
The posts for the ABR-1 style bridge are *directly* screwed into the body... gonna be a bit hard to get them out...
What are my options???

Mostly tuning stability? I play Shoegaze-ish stuff so I glide the tremolo quite a bit... though radius matching the 9.5" neck wouldn't suck, it's not essential.
The other problem is that when changing the strings yesterday I didn't notice the saddle retaining wire had come off and all the saddles dropped out onto the floor
So although I am sure I can put humpty dumpty back together again... I'd like to keep my options open for something better.
I might even be willing to drill for an actual (Staytrem / Mustang, etc) rocking bridge... I don't exactly have a "keep it mint and original" mentality with guitars

Holy Moly. Just looked at another thread (was about a SJMJM, but turned out to be relevant anyway)!
https://www.realparts.com.au/gotoh-510b ... hrome.html
Seems this is an ABR-1 AOM bridge with height adjustable saddles... it's not a roller bridge, so I guess tuning won't be any better than a normal AOM... but I could actually set the radius. So that seems like a big win.

I put on one of these I had laying around:
https://www.realparts.com.au/bridges-ta ... hrome.html
But because it has to be set so low, the screwed in posts stick up out of the bridge a bit and the one under my hand when muting is pretty uncomfortable.... but it'll do for now...

Also got rid of the gold guard. I had a custom wooden guard that I never used. Kinda gave it a white wash, and I think it looks heaps better.

Hawt!
Is the bridge held in place strictly by downward force from the strings?

Whoah, in those shots with the wooden guard it looks almost like a pinkish flake CAR! Awesome.

This is the kinda madness I should probably reserve for the Mods & Projects forum, but if I wanted a more traditional rocking bridge... would it be as straight forward as drilling new holes for thimbles where the holes for the ABR posts are now? Or would the fact that they are slightly offset on this model mean that wouldn't work?

For the obscure solution; Gibsons originally fitted with Bigsby tailpieces at one point used domed thumbwheels that allowed for rocking. Haven't checked where one can obtain such a thing, but I'd rather do that than drill the guitar; it's a unique piece a lot of people still appreciate stock.
Or actually just get a roller bridge IMO.

I guess I either need to just get a roller AOM and get used to the mismatch.
