Swapping pickups on Marr Jaguar

Post by Meriphew » Sat Sep 22, 2018 7:46 am

Has anyone swapped out the pups on their Marr Jaguar? I have two Marr Jaguars and was toying with the idea of replacing the pups on one of them. I like the sound of them, but they’re very low output compared to all of my other guitars (which is a little bit of an issue when swapping guitars live). The low output pups also don’t work as well with ebow.

What other Jaguar pups are people liking?

I had some antiquities in my 66'. Man they sounded great. Not sure if they were ones or twos as I got it used. But they were good pups

Would a clean boost be enough? The Marr's pickups are part of a system, that one guy I know around Nebraska here, did a pickup swap (either Lollars or Novaks, IIRC) and he said it didn't work at all. Grain of salt, all that. But there's a datum for ya.

I already use clean boost pedals as part of my sound, so no, that won’t work for me. I’m leaning towards a set of Lollars, or a set of Fralins. I have a set of Fralin Vintage Hots in my #1 Strat and they’re stellar.

Looks like the Ohm readings on the Lollar Jag pups are almost identical to the stock Bare Knuckles that the Marr Jag comes with. The Fralins have a hotter output.

In my ‘66, I have a Novak Jag-V in the neck and a Marrguar bridge pickup, plates, and wiring. I had to ground the neck claw separately from the coil, but it works well.
