I haven’t spent time with the new Newark Street reissues but they seem nice, if surprisingly heavy compared to vintage ones. (Are the new II and III semi hollow?)

I looked it up (gasp) and I was wrong: the Newark St SFII + SFIII are hollow body. I may have misremembered from picking up a new SFV and it weighing more than my (memory of) a 90s SFV. (I have an old SFIII and it weighs less than some pedals. Or so it seems).

I got under the hood a bit today. Its pretty well built. The wiring is pretty tidy, electronic parts are Korean, but seem to be of decent quality, and conventional in their build. The pickguard must have been cut by a CNC machine, as it is pretty flawless. The shield paint is pretty sloppy, but adequate, and several of the pickguard screw holes in the body are stripped... but all in all, pretty nice...

Frets are great... Nut is bone... Inlays are a rich pearly color. Binding is nice...

It has a urathane finish, which feels like a urathane finish... but I started playing 70's guitars in the 80's. An early guitar in my arsenal was a Guild B-302 bass, in white... It had the same poly-over-mahogany feeling... In fact, something about the way the feels really does remind me a lot of that old Guild. The knobs feel right too. Ever buy an off-shore (Japan, China, Indonesia...) Fender, and the knobs just feel wrong? These feel and look right. There is definitely some effort here...

I pulled the trigger on a chery demo today. I’ve been on the fence for about a year for humbucker guitar & I was considering a used Epi SG. It looks like the Guild checks my list of weird & humbuckers.

Looking forward to seeing how the build quality is on this. This will the most expensive guitar I own or have owned, & at over half the price off it’s very hard to turn away. Thanks for the heads up OP!

Careful... It looks like they are regular Humbuckers, but they are smaller... they are much closer to mini-humbuckers in size.

So... Swapped out the bridge pickup with a replacement neck pickup, adjusted the heights, and got to a balanced volume between the two pickups. It sounds great through my Deluxe Reverb. A lot of the pickguard screw holes were stripped,. but the PG screws were slightly smaller than average. I grabbed a bunch of slightly larger screws, swapped them all out, and problem solved. It is set-up well, and sounds great now.

Thanks for the heads up. It should still fit my needs as I’m not too anal! Any idea what hard case this would fit in?

The gig bag it comes with is better than average. It's no Momo bag.but it's pretty nicely padded and structured. I won't be searching for a hard case for it. That said, I have a bunch of guitars. i'll opportunistically try it in different cases, and if it fits in one, I'll flag it up here... It's kind of big. Bigger than you'd think. I bet it doesn't fit in much.

Liking mine, got the white one, 6 lb 13 oz. Almost too light...

Nut slots are cut a little high, so they will need attention. Other wise well made, up to its normal price point. May do the 'buy a neck pickup to swap for bridge' thing too, but after height adjustment, I don't find them too unbalanced.

Oddly enough, I impulse ordered a new Guild Jetstar in seafoam green. It's made in Indonesia, so totally different factory, but I imagine same pickups and knobs and stuff.

I like it so much better...mostly just how it feels and plays, even though on paper the ST is a 'better' guitar. Quality difference is not noticeable.

My T-Bird ST arrived the other day. Packaging was top notch, as can be expectd from Sweetwater. I chose a cherry demo that was described as having light scratches on the tailpiece.

Overall the guitar is in perfect condition & what scratches that are on the tailpiece are barely noticeable. I read a couple negative reviews about the headstock bird being off center or the “GUILD” missing part of the lettering, but mine is perfect.

Also I don’t hear any volume drop switching between the neck & bridge due to the lower output bridge that’s infamous with these, or at least squawked about over on the Guild forum. I do find the neck pickup bassy though, I’ll adjust the pickup heights & give it a setup to my liking, hopefully this will address the issue. If not, I find backing off the bass on the amp is fine atm. The guitar did fit in my Gator JM hardcase with a little play in the body area.

Anyone interested in the fully appointed T-Birds with trem & switches should know Musician’s Friend is selling the all black models for $650. They look pretty bad ass in a greaser punk kind of way.
